Red face Lake Cumberland Crappie were Huge This Year.

Went on our yearly Houseboat trip over the Memorial Day weekend and stayed at State Dock.
Last year fishing with lights at night were caught a lot of 9 and 10 inch Crappie, This year fishing under Lights we didn't catch as many fish but the ones we did catch were incredible, caught 30 Total over the weekend 4 out 5 were 13 and 14 and some 15 inches the small ones were 11 and 12 inches, Nothing under 11 inches.
This was a Bucket list Crappie fishing trip for me, my biggest Crappie to this point was 14 inches.
I Love going to Cumberland in the spring and this lake is under rated for Crappie as fare as I'm concerned.
I will try to post some pictures. Dave

They are getting quite large down there. There has always been good Crappie in Cumberland but it is good to see a nice resurgence of numbers and good fish showing up.

My biggest from the lake ever was between 16 and 17 inches and weighed a fuzz over 2lb's....

Cumberland is anything BUT underrated as a crappie lake. There was a national tournament trail event held here earlier this spring (i want to say it was crappiemasters?) Understandably cumberland was on the list with all the big name crappie lakes. Some years are up some are down, very cyclic, but we have been catching 15'+ crappie since the 70s , it has never been underrated , this was one of the crappiethon USA lakes all through the late 80s with multiple big time tournaments with new boats as prizes etc. If you fish this lake in march or april you will need to buy tickets in advance to get a good seat. Nuts? Yep. Underrated? Lol , hardly

    crappie

Sorry it was "crappie usa" and the event was classed a 2 day super event, one of 3 super events in the 2013 tournament trail. The winning wt for cumberland was 20.92 lbs, only 2 lbs behind the highest weight of the 3 super event tournaments. Because of the hundreds of coves and creek arms on LC uou just dont see the high profile pressure you might see on ky lake, or green river ....but believe me it gets hammered pretty hard most of the winter and spring. Glad there were a couple of slabs left for your weekend trip . BTW ....did you measure and photograph your biggest crappie? Its probably good enough for a kydfwr trophy fish award.

That's either a petite lady or a large fish or a combination of the two. Congrats.
