Taylorsville Winter Bass

Anyone fish Taylorsville lake much during the winter months? I am thinking of going out this week and was wondering what areas generally produce on the lake along with some techniques you have used. My father in law is coming in town and wants to go up there. Are any of the ramps shut down during the winter months particularly the possum ramp in the state park.

The lakes been up the past week or 2 not sure of the water clarity or anything but the ramps should all be open since they only drop the lake 2 feet for winter pool. As far as bass fishing in the winter there I have no idea. But crappie are still on fire as me and a couple others continue to catch our limit. You may want to target crappie instead of bass

Do the crappie hit tubes around timber all winter?

I haven't done it in quite a few years, but back when I didn't have a boat & fished T-ville from the bank ... on some days in Dec, Jan & Feb, I did catch them casting a tube jig over large blowdown trees that stuck out into deep water. Sometimes I'd catch them suspended over the deeper end of the tree, but on some occasions I did catch some right next to the bank & close to the trunk in no more than 5ft of water.

The trick to taylorsville crappie is to try different things. You might snag two nice crappie off a stick up on a minnow and then to catch another fish switch over to a jig. Don't be afraid to run a line of trees and pick one off each tree and come back. Even if it's a solid immediate bite on a tree. These fish get spoked when you pull other fish out of there. Also the fish around this time should be deeper. The difference between acting a limit and catching two could be as small as fishing 6 inches too deep. You might have luck out past creeks down in the deeper parts by the dam. Good luck! Drew (pm me if you have any questions)

All I've been doing is fishing laydowns and picking the fish right off the tree. Majority of the time I'm tossing a chartreuse tube jig or a plain white one. I always take a dozen minnows just in case the fish are suspended in deeper water but 90% of the time I've been busting them right off the structure. I don't fish one spot very long. If I'm not getting hits early I'm moving on until I find em. But like I said on my previous post we're catching our limits often. Good luck

I went this past Saturday and only caught fish in 15' of water or less.
I thought the deeper spots would be better but they weren't.
I couldn't get them to hit a tube, only a 1.5" curly tail.
I think minnows would help, I didn't have any.
Water was 44 to 47 deg. and stained.
