I'm down about a mile from King's Mill.

Who knows if the Bryant Camp ramp is a pay ramp? I imagine with KU owning the area, it and all the others will be. Not too cheap to pay my part and the businesses need support I guess but as I am closing in on retirement time, daily access could get costly.

No, Mr Buzzy...I mentioned looking down on the lake...emphasis on down. I sit on a high spot overlooking the lake. Nice view but dock would indeed be better. Thanks on the Bryants Camp ramp. I need to get out and visit the marinas to see if they might have some options for a local.

As I understand it ... ALL the ramps are "pay" ramps. Some charge $10, some less. KU conrols the water, but all the land is private, which is why they can charge for using the ramps. I do believe, however, that an annual pass for launching can be purchased from some Marina's (at least you used to be able to).

We had this very same discussion back in 2008, on a Crappie fishing website that I'm a member of ... and even people that didn't, or never would fish Herrington, were outraged at the launch ramp fee hike.

Thanks, CPappy. I'm going to visit a few around here and see if I can't do a yearly thing with one of them. I've got at least 3 that I know of in rock throwing distance.

Don't know how many CrappiePappys are around the interwebs in KY but I think I recently ogled some old pics of one of your crappie fishing excursions. IIRC, it was in the Wilmore area somewhere...maybe the river. Wherever it was, you & the wife/partner had plenty of fish to clean. My freezer's bout empty so I'm gonna have to get busy.

I believe this is where we/I will be fishing the KSHAA fishing regional. Coach told me its a deep clear water pit. Doesnt hold many fish. Ive heard the spring time/ winter jerk bait might do the trick We will be lucky to pul in a keeper fish. Make sure to keep us updated on fishing conditions! Thanks, drew

That wasn't me, seeing as how I don't fish the river .... and I'm not married, nor have I ever taken a picture of Crappie with a female "partner" ... LOL !!

Yes, there does seem to be a few people using "crappiepappy" as their moniker !!

Definitely wouldn't be the first time I was mistaken and apparently I was. It's been a while but the aforementioned crappie slayer was def fishing with a female partner & had an impressive catch he showed. I did Google the images for your handle. I'll be monitoring your chatter so if you have secrets, better not post em here.

Pandora has an annual launch fee of $100. That's what I paid in May 2013. Their annual fee covers 12 consecutive months. So if you buy it in March, then it's valid until the following March. At least that's the way it was last year. It's a good deal in my opinion. Their fee is $10 per launch otherwise. I know that's the other end of the lake from where you are though. May ask Bryant's about an annual launch. Sometimes the lake gets low and Bryant's is very hard to launch. That's not the norm, but it does happen. There is great fishing on that end of the lake. I especially like fishing the Gwinn Island area for crappie. That end of the lake gets muddied up after very heavy rains. Watch out for the trash after rains, but the whole lake from one end to the other is prone to get trashy. Crappie can be tough to find, but when you find them they are usually some nice ones. Good crappie fishing in the Cane Run area also. Don't miss out on fishing the jumps for whites and hybrids. I have enjoyed many early mornings catching some good fish in the summer fishing the jumps. I put in at first light and leave before the pleasure boaters get going. Also fishing under the lights at night is very productive for whites and hybrids. I don't do that, but have seen the results and some people do very well. Herrington is a tough lake, some call it the Dead Sea. But, I do well and seem to catch my share for the frying pan. Bluegill fishing is pretty good too. There is a ton of bluegill in the lake. Once you get past the small ones, some nice eating size bluegills can be caught. Try a Popeye tipped with a wax worm or drifting crickets off the rock walls. You'll pick up some nice bluegills, but from time to time you'll also get a nice cat or two. You won't find many people here or other forums that like Herrington too well. But, I find it a great place to enjoy my hobby. At least I can crappie fish in the spring without getting washed up on the bank. It's usually not overcrowded especially in the spring and fall. Can't say that for Cedar Creek, but that's a whole other story. Have fun and enjoy Herrington. Stay safe and wear your PFD.

Thanks a whole lot for that info, MSD. It's always good to get a starting point on a new lake even if it's my new home lake. Simply because of my close proximity, i want to give it my utmost. I've heard the Dead Sea descriptions but I won't let it discourage too much. I expect to do a lot of night fishing under lights too.

I've been on Cedar Creek half dozen times past few years. It can get busy. I'm looking forward to learning Herrington and hoping it's a little less crowded as the weather turns.

I'll try to remember to post my results when i get the results from the various ramp operators concerning the annual launching.
