Nolin Lake - Dog Creek: How much current is there?

I was thinking of putting in at Dog Creek with a kayak and fishing around that area. I have never been to that spot before does anyone know if the water in that area is slow moving where one can easily fish floating in a kayak or is it more swift where I would be mostly paddling?

Thanks that sounds perfect. Having never been there and with all the rain we had this spring I figured I ask before I made the drive.

You can go up way into dog creek before you get into any current. After you pass the bridge it's the creek on the right. But that's a long way in a paddle boat.

Thanks, That was the direction I planned on heading but I don't know how far up I will go. I will probably fish around the bridge first and then paddle up a ways then fish while slowly drifting/paddling back down towards the ramp.

Is the fishing decent in that area?

My dock is just past the bridge and the earlier poster is correct, you should definitely go all the way back into the right hand branch. If for no other reason than the scenery alone. Fishing is good back there as well fir both bass and bluegill right now. It's not that far, I see kayakers do it all the time.

How is the lake looking? THinking of heading that way Saturday?

You should find some crappie pretty shallow or hanging around some blown down trees and such. Heard a few good reports of guys catching some nice crappie 5ft deep and less. Good luck

The fishing is good in Dog Creek in general...one of the 5-6 main feeder creeks on the lake. Fishing will be good from the boat ramp back to the fork and beyond. Lots of standing timber in the back two forks, so lots of targets as well. I would say that if the bass are still waiting to spawn (and I don't know that they are since I haven't been on the water in two weeks) the further back the better. Bluegill in that area are always good during the spawn as there are a couple of shallow flats that hold lots of beds. One other poster suggested crappie in shallow water, but I believe they have spawned and left for the most part based on my last two days of fishing Easter weekend. I could be wrong about that, but I haven't heard any favorable reports in the last 10 days. Good luck
