New Albany fishing spots.

Hello all, I'm new to fishing in southern Indiana. I moved to New Albany and am waiting for the river to settle down so I can fish the Falls. Wondering if there are any good bass waters to try in the area while I wait on the Ohio. I usually fish the 13 acre lake at the park on Grant Line rd. but haven't had much luck there. Didn't do so well in silver creek either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Other than the falls your best bet is to find the farm ponds and ask permission. Smile at the pond owners and tell them you will leave nothing but footprints and take nothing but memories.

After that you could try farther out Grant Line Road (Hwy 60) north to Deams Lake (Clark Co) - maybe 20 min outside New Albany. Or go west and try Blue River around Milltown - when the water level falls it's fun to wade with a light outfit and catch small mouth.

Most of the little reservoirs – like Lanesville or Georgetown – have houses around them now and the Home Owners Assoc do not allow fishing.

Wish I had better news - New Albany area does not have many places to fish.

Cobbs Lake in now a pay lake. Its where 265 meets 65 heading to Clarksville. Have never fished it and don't know a thing about it. but have been seeing a lot of people fishing it lately.

Thanks for the replies. I would love to catch some small mouth, I haven't ever caught one. I'm from western KY. Fished Peabody coal company all my life. Strip pits and back waters. Fished loop island today and where silver creek dumps in the Ohio. Seen a boy catch a nice blue cat and I foul hooked a big gar.

I moved up from west KY ah few years ago, sure miss Barkley! Im now just a few minutes away from Patoka lake, its a nice lake but Id much rather fish the humps on Barkley than the weeds and grass in Patoka. As others have said once the conditions get right try some wade fishing in Blue river, this can be very rewarding!

If you have a boat there are several places in the area within 30 minutes. Deam, and Clark State Forestry, The Salem lakes (Require a city permit to fish) Hardy, near Austin. not to mention the river and all the creeks.

If you dont have a boat, get to know someone with a pond is the best thing I can tell you.

It's plenty down to fish right now. I'd wade it comfortably any time the flow is less than 300 cfs at Fredericksburg

I live up here and drive down to Barkley regularly, we even bought a place down there. I'm a pan fisherman and Barkley blows these lakes up here away. There is good cattin up here in the river and apparently Patoka is a quality bass lake with many large fish.

This area deserves a huge lake that provides trophy opportunities but we won't get it. Indiana is severely lacking when it comes to big lake fishing...it's a disappointment to say the least.
