Glad you had a awesome trip! What's the biggest smallie you landed up there? I've wanted to make a trip up there for awhile myself but I can't ever get the work schedule lined up right.

Well after fishing that lake I now find myself not even wanting to fish any Kentucky lakes anymore, lol. If you think we have good fisheries here................puuuuuuuuhlease, I have seen the promised land.
I will never scoff at fishing seasons and other reg's ever again they are obviously doing something right up north. That lake is the bomb and just loaded with my beloved brown fish. I sent Peter some pictures via e-mail but I don't know if he got them or was able to open them as there was an issue with that. I have a bunch on my face book wall.
If you ever get a chance to go somewhere and catch fish you need to go but don't be surprised if like me you come home looking at our lakes a little differently. I'm sure this feeling will wane in time......I hope

The five's eluded us but we had quite a few 4 plus. A good number of just under 4#. They have all finished spawning and were run down pretty bad. Lots of solid fish caught, its a beautiful place and just an awsome fishery.
How bad was the boat traffic? I've seen some crazy things on that lake, been on it twice for the 4th of July and I probably don't ever want to do that again. only way I would get on that lake during a summer weekend would probably be on an aircraft carrier, I might feel safe then haha. All kidding aside fishing St. Clair will help you when you come back down here as far as getting a new mindset on where the fish can be. that lake has given me new insights and confidence on fishing offshore, especially during the summer months. Glad you had a great trip, next time try a week in mid May.
Thursday was not bad, Friday was very busy and believe it or not Saturday was pretty slow, but it was crazy windy that day to. We did see two bass boats almost spear each other. One was moving the boat in same location while the other was just running down the lake without paying a lick of attention to what he was doing. There are some clueless boaters everywhere you go I guess. How bad was the boat traffic? Yes my partner and I have decided mid May next year as we were a bit late on the bonanza bite this year but it was still darn good. Our work just wouldn't allow that this year. Now we are talking about an Erie trip this Fall.......![]()

I don't think I could handle the boat traffic though.....that is one reason I go to Quetico. In 10 days, we saw exactly 3 other canoes. Had most lakes to ourselves.

Been wanting to go to St Clair for a while, and gonna do it soon! One question... Do you have to get a passport? Cause isn't part of the lake in Canada?
Most of the lake is in Canada, if you want to go over to the Canadian side then yes you need a passport and you must check in with DHS/Border Patrol and the Canadian border patrol before you head over and before you come back! It is a very tedious process from what I understand. But there is plenty of good fishing on the US side that requires nothing more than a MI fishing license.
Yes you have to have a passport now after 911 and you do have to call ahead but its really not that big a deal. The fishing on the Canadian side is better than the US side for sure when the bite is on, but the US side is darn good. You must be very careful though fishing Canadian water out of season. In US you can fish for bass when not in season, you just can't keep them. However in Canada you can not even fish for them and playing dumb saying I was throwing this tube for walleye don't work they will nail you. So only fish during bass season.
The absolute best bass fishing is in the Walpole Indian reservation which does require a license from them and its only good for a 5 week fishing season but the bass fishing is amazing. That's in Canada water so you have to have both.
Do not fish in the Indian reservation without a license. You are on their law and they can do what they want. Read the sign maximum ($500 fine 5 years prison). The $500 not too bad considering the alternative if they choose to do so.
I have fished it a lot and its not an issue but don't do it without a license and don't break the law.
But to all of those who have never fished Lake St. Clair you have not idea what you are missing. ITS THE BOM!
Its definitely on my fishing bucket list.
Justin. How you been? Good to see you back.
Been good I have not been striper fishing in a while though. I have a charter business in Destin, FL so been down there fishing a lot. Also have a pontoon and jet ski rental business down there as well so between the two been busy going back and forth. Only thing better than fishing in Lake St. Clair is fishing in Destin....LOL it is truly awesome down there.

Thats Cool. Often vacation in the area but not this year. Headed to Sanibel next week. Usually just do some surf fishing with gotcha's and spooks. Did catch a 3.5 ft shark 2yrs ago near destin while surf fishing as he ate the ladyfish I was trying to land![]()
