I bought a Penn 209 for catfishing and paired it up with a Tiger rod. I first had 30lb big game spooled up and simply couldn't cast it without ten birdnests. I took the mono off and replaced it with 50lb Power Pro and it casts like 50 yards with ease. I think the lack line memory of braid is why it casts much easier.
I tie leaders on using the Bristol knot or Yucatan knot, works great. BTW, this setup is a beast for monster cats!!

Those things are hard to cast, they have no cast control. I use mine from the boat strait down.
I bought some 30lb Ande mono in Panama City on vacation. It seems like a good mono line with much less line memory, but it may be hard to find up here. You could order it on the internet, it's got a strong following in Florida and other beachy places.
Yes I've used Ande's many times. Right now I've been stuck on Tight line threw the Off shore Angler....Strong line and it's pretty cheap.I usually change my line every few trips do to the amount of structure I fish at the falls so Tight Line works for me.Chuck
