IMO.....It's not enough. They should have been banned form getting a fishing license for 5 years or more.. And banned from ever fishing a tournament again. Sure they will be known as cheaters for a while but people forget and they could move one day or just travel to fish other tournaments.

They got caught cheating which in my mind means they have been doing it before and who knows for how long or what they stole from others. Like others I hate cheaters and thieves more than most things.

I believe the jail sentence was too much. 30 days for cheating in a fishing tournament? I think their fishing privileges should be suspended, but the jail time is excessive. There are a lot more SERIOUS and DANGEROUS crimes committed that do not come with that kind of jail time. IMO this is just another sign of the deterioration of values in this country. when potentially stealing money, as opposed to putting human life at risk, gets more time in jail there is something inherently wrong.

They stole money from people. 1 Year suspended sentence provided they do 30 days and pay fines/court costs. Seems reasonable to me, I hate a damned scum sucking thief.

Certainly there are more serious and dangerous crimes, but what is the best example of one that carries lighter penalties?

They were arrested before they had a chance to steal, because they hadn't weighed in yet. DUI doesn't get you any jail time on the first offense, yet these guys got 30 days for cheating in a bass tournament.

Mark, You have, on more than one occasion, posted about you crying. Now you try and attack my manhood by posting a quote from Ditka? The guy who posed in this photo? Ditka.jpg

    Just how limp-wristed are you?

There was a pattern of CHEATING. Yea, they were caught this time, and caught before anyone lost any money. Rest assured, they stole tens of THOUSANDS of dollars from folks.

They are lucky some "good ole boy" justice was not utilized in this case.

    Later,

    Geo

Actually they did weigh in according to the local news story.

Rather have someone drive by your house under the influence, or someone stop in and steal your stuff?

Actually, my common sense tells me neither, but if you want me compare apples and oranges, I'll play along. I would rather them steal some of my stuff than to pass my house and plow their car into someone else down the road. Stuff can be replaced, lives cannot. I guess I'm just weird that way.

Don't misunderstand me, I do not like a thief, but still think 30 days in jail was too much compared to other crimes. I'm sorry that peoples gambling money ALMOST got stolen, but I just think 30 days is too much.

Thanks for playing along and adding a serious, albeit cliched note to the thread. Maybe you could put a sign out in the yard. 'Free stuff for DUI's long as you don't plow into anyone while you're hauling it away'.

We can agree to disagree on the penalties the thieves got. The way I figure it our opinions don't matter near as much that of the judge in whose opinion their sorry asses would reside in the clink for 30 days. I guess I'm just weird that way.
