Mountain Lion Killed in Bourbon County Yesterday?

They wanted to do necropsy on it to determine if it was a Wild Cougar or Pet Release.COs donot carry tranqilizers on them,it was a split decision made on site to protect the public,what if they had let it go and it killed somebodies kid the next day?

Fish & Wildlife officers in this state don't have tranquilizers as a part of their equipment?

Wildlife Biologists do ,but not Conservation Officers,you can't hold a cougar in a tree for hours,they made the best decision they could to protect the public and property.I agree with what they did and you would too if you had something at risk

I didn't say I disagreed with it. I was asking a question. I just assumed our F&W officers all carried tranquilizers in their trucks. I guess I was wrong.

I have family in eastern ky and they swear they have see cougars roaming the hills out there. I always just thought that it was stories to scare me from going on the hillsides by myself. I always carried a 9mm up there just in case. Luckily the only thing I ever came across was coyotes.

I agree with the decision that was made to kill the animal but what if they start to establish a population in ky? Do we shoot everyone we see? I'm against doing that but understand how dangerous cougars are and what they can do to people and livestock. Curious to see how fish and wildlife handles the situation. IMO I believe it was someone's pet that got loose

If they ever establish that there is a breeding population of them here,they will be protected under endangered species laws.The same thing happened in Louisiana where I have family and friends and this past year they started protecting them.
I still haven't heard if it was a wild cougar or a pet release,but they said it was a young,125 lb male in good health.The gist of the report was leaning towards a wild cougar with no official statement to that effect.

Bourbon county is rural,but not like out west where they have millions of acres of wilderness,big difference that people don't seem to understand
