Dumb question about "ISIS Strongholds"

That is the problem. They are holding regular Syrians as hostages hiding behind women's dresses etc. If we were to bomb the town to the ground like some want then we would be killing a lot of innocent people who have nothing to do with ISIS and are at the mercy of ISIS right now. Those are the millions of regular Syrians who have been under the dictatorship of President Asad and are not being controlled by ISIS militants.

What's needed to take them out if boots on the ground and some kick ass US Military guys to go house to house and wipe them out. That's going to cost millions of dollars to do and many American lives will be lost not to mention the wounded warriors who will be coming back home with a few less legs and arms or serious brain injuries from IED. And IED is as effective or more effective as an unguided bomb with no laser to guide it onto a good target. The IED doesn't go off until there is a target to destroy and it ends up killing a lot of our guys while they are trying to hold onto territory that we captured. Iraq is a good example. When we went after Saddam the Iraqi soldiers took off their uniforms and went underground. The Sunni's were the ones that supported Saddam. Now they are fighting the Iraqi Government which is mostly Shea Muslims supported by IRAN. You remember Iran .. the guys that took over the US Embassy and held our diplomats hostage for over a year. After WWII the winners of the war screwed up and didn't divide the middle eastern terrorities along political religious lines but instead used artificial lines in the sand that no one living them went by. So Iraq had the Kurds, Sunni and Shea Muslims to contend with and the civil war broke out after we pulled out. And even while we kept our troops in Iraq there were many soldiers being killed by IED's all the time. Just as Germany could not contain the allied resistance fighters we can't control the differnet factions in Iraq even with 100,000 US troops. This is why many of the Western Cities in Iraq fell to ISIS so quickly. Sunni welcomed the other Sunni's ISIS back home and so it goes.

I agree that we must do something to stop these bombings in Paris and other places but what do we do is the big question. And wiping entire towns out with air strikes has not done the job. And I doubt it's going to work. You need a combination of air power and ground forces to do this job. And even then they may all go back into hiding and then wait until we leave again before this all starts up again.

Genocide would be the only real solution but the world will not stand for that. For then we would be just like Hitler was and who wants to do that? Certainly not me.

Something needs to be done. Instead of trying to kill all these ISIS guys would it not be better to give them some land of their own where they can live how they want to and leave us alone? War has proven to only provoke them more and it's costing us our freedoms that we used to enjoy. We use to be able to get on an airplane or train and not have to worry about the plane or train being blown up by some suicide bombers. What is that worth to you? Being able to ride on an airplane or train again without fear of dying by suicide bombers?

I certainly don't have the answer and so far what we have been doing it not really workout too good. We can't kill them all and the more we kill the more they recruit to take their place. There are billions of them and that's the problem. That is why this fight over religion and territory has been going on for THOUSANDS of years now. The Crusades were a big part of this in the 1300's.

I hope you think long and hard about that again. It's easy to sit on the sidelines and yell "Nuke'm" but if you were sitting in the Oval office with millions of lives in your hands I'd hope you would rethink your position and not be so rash.

Things of Changed ever since we dropped the last Atomic Bomb on Japan. Back then we were the only nation with atomic bombs. That's not true today. And pay backs can be a bitch I'm told. You didn't give your thoughts on Russian and all the Nuclear weapons that they have pointed at our homeland and other military bases and such. Actions have consequences.

I wish that we were the only nation still having Atomic Weapons as the world would be a lot different now. But we can't keep secrets in this country very well. We are still developing the F35 Stealth Fighter and China already went into the factory computers and stole the blueprints for that plane right out from under our noses. We are not very good and protecting our new found discoveries. We dropped the first Atomic Bomb back in 1945 and by 1947 or there about the Russians had already stolen the plans and were making their own atomic bombs. Back then as today we still are the subject of spies and thieves stealing or best laid plans and planes. We are not as strong as we would like to think that we are. There are other's around the world and maybe beyond this world that are just as capable or stronger than we are. We need to learn to live with these other people as you and I both well know they could destroy us in a heart beat just as we could do the same to them.

I'm not sure how old you are George or if you lived though the Cuban Missile Crisis but I was there hiding under my desk as were all the other little kids in my grade school when the Russian Nuclear Submarines were just about ready to fire that nuclear torpedo and start WWIII back in 1960. Even back then at only 8 or 9 years old I was smart enough to figure out that bending over and kissing my ass good bye was about the only thing I could do. I never felt so helpless as that day. We watched the ships on the TV screen at school as the major news media TV stations broadcast what was happing with the US Ships blockading the Cuban Island and turning those Soviet Ships carrying more nuclear missiles to Cuba. Cuba already had Soviet Advisors on that island and there were already several nuclear missiles ready to fire. Those missiles were only a few minutes away from the US Shores.

And today the Russians, China, Pakistan and North Korea and possibly Iran have nukes and missiles that could help destroy the entire world. And you casually sit there at your computer and yell! Nuke'm!!?????

Do you realize how touchy the middle east situation is today? I mean we have Russian Troops and airfield and anti aircraft missile sitting in Syria as well as Russian Naval Vessels off the Coast of Syria in the Mediterranean Sea and then also in the Black Sea with cruise missiles capable of hitting targets hundreds of miles away. We have Russian Bombers testing the limits of NATO's defense more frequently now that during the Cold War years.

Many things have changed since we Nuked Japan over 70 years ago.

A Russian Su24 was shot down over Turkish Air Space according to Turkey. The Russians claim that their Su24 was shot down by anti aircraft cannons but Turkey claims that their F15's shoot the Russian Jet Down. Two Russian Pilots are missing.

These are the type of things that can start the beginning of WWIII. Now is not the time to act like a bully! What will Russia's Putin Do now? Russian planes have been violating Turkish Air Space ever since they started building up their forces in Syria. Turkey being a member of NATO will have to be defended by the USA and all the other NATO allies if Russia retaliates against Turkey.

This situation in Syria and Iraq is going to be a disaster sooner rather than later. See what the Chicken Hawks in the Bush Administration have started? They were foolish to take out Saddam and opened up a big can of worms over there in the Sand dunes of Iraq. Isis is nothing more than the remains of the Sunni Army that Saddam had supporting him. This religion fight over who rules the Muslin Religion is going to be hard to contain. Iran on the one hand is ruling Iraq now were before we had Rumsfeld's shaking hands with Saddam and backing him in the war against Iran and now we have the US backing Iran and the Shea's against the Sunni ISIS fighters. The only people benefiting from these wars are the arms dealers and manufactures.

I agree 100% that Isis needs to be destroyed. However, there is no way to just bomb the hell out of them like the US did with Japan in WWII. Isis is not a country. They are an organization that can be found in a number of locations. Sure, you find a training camp or other facility, I'm all for launching a few cruise missiles or carpet bombing to destroy them. Carpet bombing a whole city in the hopes of killing a few Isis pukes, not so much.

No. They also want to change the way you live. The only possible benefit of giving them their own home is that you could then find a bunch of them together in one place and carpet bomb the hell out of it to remove them. Not every GERMAN was a NAZI, yet, we firebombed Dresden.
Not every Japanese was an IMPERIALIST, yet, we firebombed Tokyo and we NUKED Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
