    I found this interesting.

This week, the Environmental Working Group released findings that more than 400 known cancer-causing chemicals have been found in the bodies of Americans during research studies.

After a review of more than 1,000 biomonitoring studies, the group found that up to 420 chemicals known or likely to cause cancer have been detected in blood, urine, hair and other human samples. Nine of these was identified to be above safety limits assigned by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and posing non-trivial cancer risks in most Americans, according to the review.

"The presence of a toxic chemical in our bodies does not necessarily mean it will cause harm, but this report details the astounding number of carcinogens we are exposed to in almost every part of life that are building up in our systems," said Curt DellaValle, a senior scientist at the Environmental Working Group and author of the report. "At any given time, some people may harbor dozens or hundreds of cancer-causing chemicals. This troubling truth underscores the need for greater awareness of our everyday exposure to chemicals and how to avoid them."

    Better living through chemistry

Ever think that in a pure and pristine world, how many of us would be living? Some of the same toxic chemicals, provided me with an income, added to my recreational pleasure. and to this day aids me in my mobility. science never disproven that saliva causes cancer. No one lives forever I've always believed that it's better to enjoy the time you have, than to deprieve yourself of pleasures for the time you HOPE to have.

Ever Walk into a den of rattle snakes on purpose?

[QUOTE=kygorski;556005? Some of the same toxic chemicals, provided me with an income, added to my recreational pleasure. and to this day aids me in my mobility.

So your pleasure at other's health detriment is OK with you? That's just sad and wrong.

    how about you?

Do you own a car? use an outboard motor? Is your air conditioner on in this heat? Yes I've poluted the enviroment, so have millions, but those chemicals and products were put on the market, with out thought as to the long lasting effects. Remember DDT, did you ever use it? How about chlordane[greatest fire ant killer ever made]. Got a garden? ever use seven? We can't undo our past mistakes, most of us now realize that some of these "miracle" chemicals caused harm. are we supposed to buy hair shirts and flog our selves for our ignorance? We let the genie out of the bottle, because it promised us great things, and at the time, they were. This always comes up, does man have an effect on nature. Of course he does. Are we all sinners, or just unknowing users. So each night when I remember to sat my act of contrition, I'll try to include an act of the things I've doneoooops forgot those were forgiven.

We all pollute. I drive a truck and it burns gas. But ever since 1973 I've driven a smaller fuel efficient car or truck. I use to ride a bike to work when I was younger. But even doing that created CO2 emissions. So you are right we all produce some form of pollution.

But not all pollution is as toxic as some others. I've spoken about Dosage before so I won't repeat that. But if you remember part of the Dosage equation is Concentration. And toxicity has a lot to do with the Concentration of the substance as well as how toxic it is. Some things are more toxic than others and will do more harm in less concentration.

And you are absolutely right in that a lot of chemicals like DDT were thought to be great and ended up doing more harm than good. It's hard to find a chemical that can work to kill fire ants and not do harm to other insects or people up the food chain.

My last post was directed at people who make these toxic chemicals without testing their total effects. Hopefully someday we will learn a lesson from things like DDT and DIOXIN and do some testing on any new chemicals to make sure that they are more focused to do the job without harming the entire environment food chain.

But I was just pointing out that all these different chemicals that we all use add up inside our bodies over time. Some are more harmful than others. For example I use to have to handle PCB for my job in a analytical testing lab. We took samples of various oils and tested them for the present of PCB's to help clean up this contaminate in the environment. Most were found in old electrical transformers that our client (Electric Company) used in their transformers. Any time they had to work on a transformer they tested the oil inside to see how high the concentration of PCB's were in the oil. I had to get rid of all these small vials containing the OIL. I would dump the small vial of oil into a 30 gal plastic drum for later disposal. And even though I wore rubber gloves the PCB's oil still went though the glove and got on my fingers and thumbs. To this day I have a rash on my index fingers and both thumbs that comes and goes. At times it's painful. I have to use medicine on my fingers to make the rash go away for a while. So I know the effects of handing a toxic chemical even when wearing protective gloves etc.

There is a creek up near SW central Indiana that has PCB's in the water and fish. There are fish consumption advisories saying not to eat the fish in this creek.

We have put many different chemicals into the environment over the years and some of them can bio-accumulate in our bodies. Mercury and lead are two others that have a high toxicity.

We all make mistakes and hopefully we all try to do better next time.

My father practiced dentistry for 50 years died at 77 and worked with mercury almost ever day. I would go to the office sometimes after school and he would let me play with a small amount of mercury--it was actually amalgam which was silver mercury tin and copper. he has filled thousand of teeth with this as has my brother who practiced for 55 years and is still living at 87. They still use this today to fill teeth.

My Dentist is in the nursing home with Alzheimers Disease

My Dentist was a WWII veteran who flew as a gunner in the B25. He was old school and didn't think that mercury was dangerous either.

Mercury is extremely toxic. Certain compounds of mercury are more toxic than others. I have mercury amalgam compounds in a few of my molars and have always wished that the dentist had used something other than mercury. I had these teeth filled long before I went to college and took chemistry classes. I didn't know any better and trusted my Dentist. Remember he was only doing what he was taught to do in dental school. I wonder if they still teach the new dentist to use mercury amalgam these days?

My Doctor was eating lunch with three women at his table. He still had a good sense of self esteem and humor even though he is in the nursing home. He looked bad physically though. He was half asleep at the dining table when I went up to say hi to him. He took care of me the best he knew how. After I started working in the environmental field I asked him one day about the mercury and he dismissed it's dangers. That was the last time he filled one of my teeth with mercury in the filling material. He retired before I needed him again and switched to another dentist. He used a gold filling material instead of using mercury. The Gold is shiny and looks so much better in my teeth.

I'll let you guys do the google search about Mercury in fillings at the Dentist Office.

I knew a quack chemist who once said to the news paper reporter that he ate PCB's for breakfast and was ok. He was a jerk and a quack and lots of people used his services without knowing any better.

I broke a mercury thermometer one time in the lab and used sulfur compounds to clean up the mercury that spilled out onto the laboratory floor. If you tie up the mercury with other compounds you can keep it from entering the human body in it's toxic form. Still I believe that mercury should not be used as it was in the past. Why take a risk if you don't have to?

Post More on chemicals that are toxic to humans

    http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/01/health...commended_pool

Read this article and you will see we are surrounded by toxic chemicals all around us in our daily lives. We should try to limit out exposure if we don't want to die of cancer sooner rather than later.
