That said, seems somewhat contradictory to the checks and balances system of our government and its three branches.

While I do think the President ought to be able to order something quickly in a time of crisis for the sake of national security without having to huddle up Congress, I'm generally not a big fan of stroking the pen and making it law.

Too much power in one spot...harkens back to times when your leader was a dude in a funny hat on a throne.
