Putin waiting for the ground to freeze

Putin needs the ground frozen hard for his tanks to cross the flatlands into Ukraine. Historically these flat areas were used by previous armies to invade Russia. We are fooling ourselves into thinking that sanctions will stop Putin from invading Ukraine. He already had his mind made up when he positioned 140,000 Russians around the border between Ukraine and Russia. The Russians have a long history of fighting in the frigid winter months. They defeated the German Army using the cold. And Russia defeated Napoleon using the Frigid weather as well.

Russia already invaded Ukraine and annex the Crimea part of Ukraine back in 2014 and NATO did NOTHING. Putin like Hitler sees weakness and will take what he wants until he is met with force that stops him.

Remember that Ukraine is not a member of NATO and we are not obligated to defend Ukraine as a member of NATO. This is why Biden is only sending US Troops to nearby NATO countries to prevent Putin from taking NATO countries like he did with Crimea.

Good analysis. But Putin and the russinas could end up in their own mouse trap.
Ukraine tends to experience a hard winter freeze by January at the latest, but this year, the ground has yet to freeze in various parts of the country due to mild winter weather.
Frozen ground, which is neither ice nor mud, allows troops, as well as heavy military vehicles and equipment, to maneuver more easily. Mud, however, can cause heavy wheeled vehicles to loose traction, and even tracked vehicles like tanks can be affected if the mud goes deep enough.
Muddy ground could lead Russian President Vladimir Putin to delay any planned ground offensive until February at the earliest. They added that he would likely need to act before the spring thaw in March, when the Russian military could face another muddy situation.

So what ya might see is a massed border crossing, and initital attacks, but as the ground thaws those troops no in the country may loose logistics supply lines to mudded supply routes, and those T-72's might find they loose their maneuver ability. Ergo, a force that has intruded, could end up cut off if not surrounded by foot/insurgency style troops defending.

So if the Ukrainians put up token resistance and stqand clear of the main effort, letting the russians take land, they may then have the opportunity thanks to mother nature to clsed the door behind the invading force. Russi might then be in a long term counter insurgency type action like they voluntoeered for in Afghanistan.
