Stochastic terrorism is “the public demonization of a person or group resulting in the incitement of a violent act, which is statistically probable but whose specifics cannot be predicted.”The word
stochastic, in everyday language, means “random.”
Terrorism, here, refers to “violence motivated by ideology.”
Here’s the idea behind
stochastic terrorism:
A leader or organization uses rhetoric in the mass media against a group of people.
This rhetoric, while hostile or hateful, doesn’t explicitly tell someone to carry out an act of violence against that group, but a person, feeling threatened, is motivated to do so as a result.
That individual act of political violence can’t be predicted as such, but that violence will happen is much more probable thanks to the rhetoric.
This rhetoric is thus called
stochastic terrorism because of the way it incites random violence.
With this concept in mind:
1. Did Dem constant accusations about Trump and attempts to demonize thru rhetoric, cause the Jan 6 Capitol
riot/insurrection?
2. Being fair, is this why the Dems thought Trump incited it?
3. Is this concept in play as the root cause of the violence directed at law enforcement including Police and FBI?
Sources said there would have been racial injustice accusations, and more recent searches.
4. Was this the cause of the race protests and riots, fanned by the media to get more sensationalistic reviews and
ratings?
So, isn't it time we in our society act and speak with the same or greater level of clarity, resisting supposition and instead conveying facts, and agreeing or disagreeing with the same levels of energy, but with a bit more civility and professionalism? Wow, does this mean decorum, accuracy, civility, and professionalism might be a way forward?
