Fishing Clear water

Fishing clear water is always a little frightening to
most anglers, especially those who have not had much
experience with it. I enjoy it and would like to share a
few of my patterns on this type of water.
When facing clear water one thing I look for is what type
of cover is available? If there is grass in the lake then
Ill fish those areas.
The reason for this is that grass creates a lot of hiding
places and offers protection for the fish. When fishing
grass there are several lures that will possibly work.
First, pick a lure that will cover water quickly and
effectively. When choosing this lure you will have to let
the layout of the grass tell you which lure can be
fished. Generally there are three lures that will work
best a spinnerbait, buzzbait and a rattle trap. With
clear water and this is usually the main key. I fish
small baits. I do this because the small size is not as
gaudy looking as a larger baits and therefore more real
looking to the fish another key is to fish the lure very
quickly so that the fish cant get a good look at
it. And I will get the fish to hit the lure out of
reflex.
If the lake has wood instead of the grass simply
concentrate on the wood. With the same lures as I
mentioned. Youll also want to fish small crank
bait.
All of these lures will catch fish in clear water. If the
lake you choose to fish has little or no cover, consider
man made cover such as docks. Either private docks or a
large marina attract and hold fish.
The same thing applies to plastic baits, down size and
your catching will increase.
Awareness is the doorway to fishing success.
