Clarity, stained to clear
Water Temperature 54 to 66 degrees
The spring pattern is holding for now. The water temperature swings
from mid 50's early morning to mid 60's in late afternoon on sun
shinny days, not quite as warm on cloudy days. The clarity is good
now and hopefully will clear up fast after these next few days of
predicted rain. Just today, the rain has dropped 4.50 inches. The
high water table has covered all the new vegetation from the
drought. Bait fish have gathered in this great cover and the shallow
bite has been hot for the past month or more. When the temperature
stays above the 56 degree mark the spawn will be hot and heavy. The
sow's are already full and it looks like a great year for a good
hatch. The bass we are catching are in excellent health.
The early morning bite on top water action is great. The new Injured
Minda from Minda lures is showing great potential for a big bait. It
stays in one location longer allowing the bass to get that second
look. Bass'n Magazine picked it as #1 out of the top 50 baits for
'08. The Big Bite frog is also producing an awesome action, and it
does not stop early. As soon as I get a little sunshine, I begin
working the tight cover and when working it like a live frog, the
bite is strong. Because the hit is as if they are eating real food,
you must wait for the fish to load up the second time to set up. The
bigger bass love this frog. The Big Bite shaky head is working
better than the bigger jig right now. Rigged with the trick worm or
the Kinami swimming sinko, they are having a ball with it. Visit
Bakers Landing on Thomas Mill Creek or Young's Big Mouth Baits North
of town. Strike Zones Rumble Fish and the Master Blaster are getting
lots of hits worked tight over and through the cover. check out the
local WalMart for a look at the choices. The hydrilla and pads
will begin to appear in about a month and the action will really be
wild.
Crappie are starting to do better since the water has cleared up.
The trolling is not as hot yet but the old relaxed pole and bobber
with minnows are producing a good mess for the table.
Bream are still tight mouthed on crickets and worms. We have taken a
few shell crackers on lipless crank baits while fishing for bass.
The cat fish are staging to spawn in the creeks and we are looking
forward to some great jug fishing in the next few weeks.
I have witnessed a lot of boaters running between islands and taking
short cuts outside the markers and cans. Just because the water is
high now, the stumps and stick-ups are still there. Don't let a miss
judgement or being rushed cause you to ruin a good trip or injure
someone. The water way and creeks are marked for our safety.
Please keep the Lee King Benefit Buddy Tournament in your prayers.
We are praying for 200 boats to fish June 14 , 2008. Visit
www.leekingbenefit.org and see the many ways you can help these
Terminal children with Nemann-Pick disease.especially our new online
shopping mall with over 1000 stores. We have an opportunity to be a
part of funding a new laboratory that will do full time research for
the kid's with a goal of a treatment or cure in five years.
