Around 64 is the optimal range. They'll do fine to the upper 40's, then slow down. They prefer temps below 70 and larger ones cannot take 70 degrees for any length of time.

    Re: Cumberland stripers?

Just got in and put the boat up. Went down the lake to my favorite fishing hole only to find 3 guide boats pulling about 7 boards each with live shad (guess somebody saw us Sunday LOL)....so we weaved our way through them and went a hundred yards or so below them. I figure that they probably had some upset clients as there were only 2 of us in the boat and we caught and released 7 stripers. Of course once we started catching fish, guess what? We could have tossed rocks in their boats! But the fish didn't seem to want live shad today as they only had 2 between them. We capped our day off with a double and didn't even fish anymore after that. Probably could have caught a dozen or so if we had stayed longer. I have plenty of fish in the freezer, so right now I'm trying to catch another one to mount. The stripers are on fire right now...come and get them. The guides were still there after we left, so I hoped they picked up some fish for their clients. (my tweaks are working)

Water temp was 57.3 yesterday. Almost went again today after working 1/2 day but the wife had a honey do list. LOL

Appears the creeks are much warmer than the main lake.

that's where the shad are, so that's where the fish are. There are a LOT of fish in White Oak.

    were you trolling the bucktails.

I noticed the last time i was down two weeks ago, that many guides were trolling with their outboards with dipsy divers and only a couple boards on the bank side. they were crusing thru there and i assume they had bucktails on the end of their lines. i have not seen this technique during this time of the year.

is this how u caught your fish. if so how much line do you let off your boards??? how deep on the dipsy's.

    Re: Cumberland stripers?

I don't use boards or dipsy divers. I have actually found something that the stripers like better than live bait and I have been catching them year round. It is just a matter of finding them.

    Re: Cumberland stripers?

I've been putting in at Lee's Ford since December and running to White Oak. I can't believe how many fish there are in this area. I would put in at the ramp that I see in White Oak, but I don't know how to get there by road. That would save me some running time. It's on the left as you go up the creek. Anyone have any idea how to get there by road?

    Re: Cumberland stripers?

Either I need to fix my temp gauge or I need to try some different areas. I haven't seen anything above 52 for the last couple of weekends.
