    Split rings on Walking baits?

How many of you out there place split rings on your spooks and other walkers that don't come from the factory with them. I'm thinking of putting them on all of mine to see if I can get more side to side action out of them. Seems logical that it would increase the action??

Also try using a loop knot to improve the side to side walking action.

I was going to ask for an easy way to tie a loop knot but figure there is no easy way, at least I haven't found one...... tight lines........

I use a snap (no swivel) on the end of my line. Makes switching plugs quicker and gives more action.

I always put split rings on not for the action, but rather to keep the fish from throwing the bait during the battle. Using splits rings reduces the amount of leverage the fish has. Also, the split rings let the bait fit easier into your tackle box.

I can't tell any difference in the action with the split rings..........

Wait a minute, are you talking about split rings to tie to or for your hooks? I'm talking about hooks here.....

You know Andrew I have thought of the snaps but always talk myself out of them. Have you ever had one of those things fail??

Re: Split rings on Walking baits?

I watched the FLW show this past Sunday. They showed how to tie the Loop Knot. I watched it real close and on the second try /attempt I did the knot perfect. I thought it was really difficult to tie, but was wrong. So I'll be using it now instead of a split ring. I have a web site on my other PC that has a slow motion viewing step by step to show how to tie about 10 to 15 different knots, I'll post on another post here as soon as I can get to it. But I really like the way this Loop Knot works....

I usually use a snap on my top water plugs such as a spook or a chug bug. Never had one to fail me yet, and Is alot quicker in changing out your plugs and still get the action you want. Here Is a web site similiar to what Msgmills was referring to, or maybe the same one that shows alot of knots and how to tie them. The loop knot Is not listed as such, however I think It Is listed as a rapala knot Instead. Pretty neat...check It out.

Here's a web site that was posted on this forum a while back. The animations are great. I finally mastered the Rapala knot after visiting this site! For me, the key is to keep the loop small as you're tying the knot, then right before you draw it tight, adjust it so the loop is slightly larger than you want it to end up, and slobber all over it.
