Here's a complete run down on the 76 Falls Monster Houseboat party this weekend:
a. Total Houseboats at the falls = 0
b. Total Houseboat collisons at the falls = 0
c. Total "too loud" houseboat stereos =0
d. Total drunken fights = 0
e. Total med emergencies, from fights, overdoses, drunken trips and falls = 0

This might have been the most mature, realxing, peacefull, ecologically sound holiday weekend in 76 Falls history.
Hey.......wait a minute........you don't think the corps is faking the dam thing, just so they can lower the water and clean up the 76 Falls party crowd do ya.......well that would be.......well............ya know...........Worthy of a Noble Peace prize!![]()

Talking about no loud music, partying, etc. etc. and having a peaceful weekend on a 3 day holiday makes you sound old---has nothing to do with Senior Member----LOL!!!!!!
This story reminds me of a bumper sticker on the back of a car. It reads"
"If I wanted to listen to your car's stereo, I would be sitting in your car next to you!"
I would love to get one of those stickers for my vehicle. Better yet would be a big sign that I could mount in the bed of my truck so that everyone could see it.
I would then like to get my hands on one of the Army's new Focused Sound devices that they are going to use for Crowd Controls. When I hear a vehicle coming down the road with the BASS so loud that it shakes my bones I would point the sound weapon at their car and burst some one's ear drums!
As you get older you get more sensitive to loud noises. And low frequency sound waves are more penetrating than higher frequency sound waves. Longer waves travel further as well.
We use to have a "NOISE ORDINANCE" and a motor cycle "CHIPS" cop that enforced the noise ordinance. If your muffler fell off and and you continued to drive making loud engine noises you would get a ticket. If your car stereo was too loud you would get a ticket. And if you rode a Motorcycle which was too loud you TOO would get a ticket from the cop riding the 1000 CC police "CHIP" motorcycle. That bike was too fast to outrun unless you took your bike off road. Those big 1000 cc Kawasaki Cycles didn't do very good off road. But on the Highway it was too fast for most street bikes to outrun. Besides it's more difficult to out run the radio if they get your bike license plate number.
Peace and quiet is one of the main reasons I like to go fishing.
I guess I'm new wave, but I have no problems with the party at 76 falls as long as no one is getting hurt.
76 falls is a long standing tradition. They've staked out their spot on the lake for 3 weekends per year. They spend their money on their boats just the same as we do. If they choose to do it to party at 76 falls, more power to them. Everyone else around the lake knows that they will be there, and I'm willing to give them their three weekends.
Once again, my caveat to all of this is as long as no one is getting hurt.

I agree...let'em party. The only problem is when drunk boating leaves 76 Falls, loads the boat, and turns into drunk driving. There needs to be plenty of Law Enforcement around to stop the boneheads who decide to be boneheads, but let'em party...they'll find somewhere to do it.
If my ankles didn't hurt some much, I'd walk over and get my cane and whack ya with it. Now, hand me another beer, and a shot of Jack Daniels while I put another Buck Cherry CD in and get the GGW tape rolling.

How many houseboats times $600 a day or so.. I figure close to $500,000 in lost boat rentals, then add in the food, booze, gasoline, broken boat motors that will NOT need repairing, motel and hotel rooms not rented.. and it goes OVER a million.. and why?

Because the media OVER HYPED this problem. The lake is there, there is plenty of water and no reason to stay away.
Having been educated at Murray State in news, I am ashamed of the way the media has handled this issue. The party at 76 Falls NOT happening is a major story.. that will for the most part be ignored.

I had heard that the whole cove of 76 falls is dry. The reason no one was there was because there was no water in that cove other than what's coming over the falls.
Is this not true?
I completely agree with splitshot about the drunk driving. That has the potential to hurt someone.

Just curious, but where exactly would they put a houseboat there? Here is a link to a thread on the Cumberland board. It has pictures posted by Peter that shows basically no water at the falls. Not sure what the media should do about that.

While the falls AREA is high and dry the creek further out has plenty of water.. The point being that there was plenty of water to party on, and that this particular TRADITIONAL Party was canceled by the Media Hype without any organized attempt to cancel it, and is indicative of the problem the people on Lake Cumberland are having. This weekend was a serious disaster for the people of Lake Cumberland without it having to be. The media hyped this in January like the lake would be EMPTY and it is not. They are destroying the tourism on this lake and in turn businesses, families and communities.Just curious, but where exactly would they put a houseboat there? Well...count me in as being an old fella I guess...I too prefer the peace and quiet. But at the same time I ain't going near 76 falls during this time of year whether the lake is at summer pool or not, so I guess I really don't care how much parting goes on since I'm not gonna be there at this time of year anyway...but I remember back in the day when my dad took me to 76 falls in our john-boat, I distinctly remember dad filling a cup of water from those falls and taking a swig...there wasn't no one else around but us...we had our shirts off so it was warm weather...good ol' days as I recall.
