Trolling Motor string...

I was out on the lake today enjoying being tossed around by the wind, when I decided to move further back into a creek. As I went to raise the trolling motor...SNAP. It broke. After 10 minutes of trying to figure out how to get it raised back up with out the string, I finally managed.

So now after that, I have a couple of questions...

1.) Are there any ways to temporarily rig it up so you day on the water isn't finished?

2.) How do I repair this flippin thing. I know it's just a string, but what's the best way to tie a new one back on.

Unfortunately I'm not kiddin. I know, I'm not that bright when it comes to anything to do with a boat. The entire string is gone and I have no idea where it goes. I must have missed how to fix your trolling motor day during college.

I had one break on me like that last year, so now I keep a spare in the boat just in case it happens again.

I got a replacement at my local boat dealer (R&W marine in E'town). It was only a few bucks.

I attached it back the exact same way the old one was. Mine had broken in the middle of the string, so I was able to see where and how it was attached to the TM. It was pretty simple to do.

Go to weiss Hardware at Munfordville and get you some starter rope for a lawn mower. I think Your Church is coming over to ours this month to sing at a rally ? "Hardyville"

Ok pastor somewhere there is a bar or a hook with a spring attach to it--tie off there an run the string back thru to the handle--Hard to tell you when we don,t know the make of your trolling motor--gl man

there is also a metal pin that the rope ties too. when mine broke i lost the metal pin and could not figure out what it tied too i ordered a nwe pin and rope presto bake to fishin as normal real easy to fix

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. I'm in E-town every Tuesday so I may swing by and get a couple of ropes. I'll probably try the lawnmower rope too, that way I'll be set.

Mine broke yesterday afternoon too. But i couldn't get it fixed on the water. Had to take the durn motor out of the bracket and lay it on the front deck and come home. I guess as much as its been used the last three yrs it deserves to break, lol. Going to fix it this afternoon.

I contemplated that. I was in Butler on Green and was right by that boat ramp, so I hopped out on the boat ramp, popped the spring and raised it up. It was very frustrating especially with the wind, but I had to quickly remind myself - hey, I'm on the lake on my day off.

Happened to me early this year...The original Motorguide rope came untied in the down and locked position and to my knowledge you can't unlock the trolling motor unless you completely take it off the boat!!!! Wow!!! finally got it unlocked and went with the Lawnmower starting cord. This stuff rules and it is strong enough to lift the front of your boat outta the water! I applied some epoxy to the knots in the string with a painters brush to keep them from coming undone. Also took a rat tail file and rounded the eyelets where the string goes through any metal.
