Catfish? hybrids? The upper gates are closed right now, but there are some fish at the lower gates.

1/4 or 3/8 jigs with 3'' grubs will catch you about anything down there. You need some running water for it to be worth going. Most of the fish are at the lower gates if you have a boat to get out there. call 502-775-5056 for the release and river level recording.

Fish the lower gates. Use a super fluke in albino color. Rig them with a 1/8 ounce jig head. Get there at daylight and fish as close to the white water on the spillway as you can get. We caught 4 hybrids over 10 lbs last sat morning. I fish up there all year long and this technic works 90% of the time. You can pull your boat right up to the spillway but youll need a crocrete block for a anchor. Good luck

Upper Lock. Walk down by the rail bridge, and try to get over the spillway. Then find areas where water is running. I've hammered the sauger and wipers this way. BE CAREFUL, as it is very slippery, and with the rain, you never know when they will open the gates.

From horn to opening, you only have about 10 minutes, so DON'T GET STUCK out there.

If they have a couple gates open, walk down the trail on the right side of the river, below the interpretive center. This trail takes you to the "bend" in the river. THis is a GREAT spot for monster sauger, and some decent stripers, but only if there is good running water, and the water is up in the rocks.

The fishing there can be GREAT though.

Lower Lock. Fishing right from the ramp area can be good, if they are running water.

If you take a boat, BE CAREFUL. you need to understand the river, and if you anchor, PLEASE only anchor from the front. A quick rise of the water will sink you if you're not careful. ALSO make sure you anchor with enough slack line in the anchor rope, just in case.

If you use the New Albany Ramp, make sure you go through the "chute" instead of following the bank. Actually I don't think you can follow the bank, but if you don't know this, you will DESTROY your lower unit....PERIOD.

And don't even try to get to The interpretive center now with a boat..........Dangerous.

    Hey.

I don't fish the river that much any more, but when I do get down there, I'm either fishing below the interpretive center from the bank, or back by the bend, or sometimes I take my red Old Town Canoe, but ONLY when the water is down..ha, ha.

When not paddling, wading, or bank fishing, I usually put in at Harrison. I have a 19ft Tracker with 135hp 4-stroke, which works GREAT in the river, but it doesn't help me catch fish .

    Later,

    Geo.
