Anybody interested in learning the Float and Fly technique should check out the October issue of Field and Stream, pg. 36. They credit fishermen from Kentucky and Tennessee with coming up with the idea. There is a great explanation of the technique and and illustration on how to rig it up. Very informative 1 page article.

I don't think that the fly would be heavy enough to pull the line thru the slipp bobber.
Well, that's not so much the problem. Float 'n' fly doesn't use an actual "fly," it's a jig. I've fished for crappie with a jig below a slip bobber before, and it works just fine, and I thought at the time I was doing a float 'n' fly, but it's not really a true float 'n' fly. To really do a float 'n' fly right, you need a bobber attached to a 3-way swivel, along with your main line and leader. That way if a fish takes your bait from underneath, the weight comes off the bobber, and it turns sideways (ya gotta use the right bobbers, too). That's a bite you'll very often miss with a slip bobber. There are several sites about it on the web, but Jim's is probably the best: www.floatandfly.com.
Wish I could make to the get-together, but I'll be working. Best of luck to y'all!
NO! The writer took another article looked at it and tried to simplify the system.. problem is that with a slip bobber, the line will slide up through the bobber, and the bait will not stay at the right depth. The WHOLE Idea of this is that you keep the bait at ONE level and jiggle it right in the fish's face..
I wrote to him and invited him to the Float and Fly get together.. I have not heard back.. The short article was poorly written in my personal estimation.
They needed something to fill some space and that was what we got.
I do not have much faith in writers any more.. most of them now take a ton of short cuts and interpret what they are told and do not pass on the FACTS as presented.
AGAIN my humble opinion.
Jim
