Who cares what PETA thinks?
You had better care what PETA thinks!! PETA people, and other fanatics like them, vote, write letters to congress, have demonstrations, and many other things to get their perverted point accross to those that make the laws. However, from what I have seen the average American is so wrapped up in themselves and their hobbies (like hunting and fishing) that they don't bother to vote and elect people that will protect their right to hunt and fish. Then when that right is gone, as it is fully or partially in many places, they wonder what happened.
This is a Presidential election year so more people will vote than normal, but PETA works on electing people that will help them during any election, especially at the local and state levels. I am not talking about any particular politician in Kentucky but loss of your hunting and fishing rights can and will happen here if too many people say: "WHO CARES WHAT PETA THINK?"
Grumpy
Honestly, guys, all PETA is are a group of whackos based in Virginia who have a major problem with fishing and KFC. They have no power, and if they ever get power or thier way, watch out, public outcry will be GREAT.
I have actually been at a ramp before where there was a small, and I do mean a small, PETA protest against fishing. Five members were standing, blocking the ramp, since there was apparently a tournement the next day or something like that. We backed our boat down, asked them to move, and when they did not comply, we sat in our car and called the police. We launched 30 mintues later.
Why give them the publicity? It just helps promote them. Ignore them and do not go to their site.
I belong to a group called PETA.
People Eating Tasty Animals!!!
Like Grump said. Find out who they support for public office and vote against them. If you don't get out and vote to protect your rights then you will have nobody to blame but yourself when certain things we take for granted are gone.
This deal with PETA is not going away. You have to vote for people that are willing to stand up against them and not take the special interest group payoff.
PETA has more power that you think............They HAVE the power to discuss their views with our children.....
My oldest daughter no longer fishes, and I contribrute most of this to PETA.....Here's the story:
About 6 or 7 years ago, when my daughter was in the 4th or 5th grade, her teacher invited a "friend" to talk to the class and school about "nature". Sounds innocent, right............Well this "friend" was a whacko, LEFT WING, GOD HATING, Pot SMOKING, hippy SOB, who just happened to also be a STRONG supporter and member of PETA......
This person gave an hour long presentation on why hunting and fishing is "BAD" and that people who participate in such activities are "hurting nature". The presentation was well rehearsed, and TARGETED specifically AT KIDS.....
Kids are impressionable, and believe what adults say, and this BUTTHOLE of a person convinced my daughter that hunting and fishing were bad.
It took me MANY discussions, to convince her otherwise......BUT the bottom line..........she no longer partakes in those activities.......
After finding out about this BS lecture, I brought it up to the teacher, the principal, and the SCHOOL BOARD that this was an unfair representation of Hunting and Fishing, and that a visit from the DNR or local biologist would be a GREAT counterpoint..........that went NOWHERE.
So, BELIEVE ME.........you CARE........
Later,
Geo
Geo,
I'd get the media involved in something like this. Nothing motivates school administrators more than potential bad publicity.
Water under the bridge now..........happened 5-6 years ago, maybe longer.........I was REALLY PO'd about it though.........
This is a prime reason for Fishing For Kids... Children will believe anyone who stands in front of the class because they are "Experts". The problem is these people can teach 2 things...FACTS and OPINIONS. Facts are written in stone, Opinions are "facts" as told from a point of view.
Think of it this way... While we (hunters, fishermen) spend billions each year on gear and related expenses for personal use. PETA is spending millions directly with the politions and media. PETA does not stop people from hunting and fishing. It's their MONEY and TIME spent with the lawmakers and the media.
When we go into the field, we count our success in how many we caught. PETA counts their sucess in how many cast they made!
The BEST way to counter PETA is to teach the children the FACTS, before they teach their OPINIONS!!!!!
I'll fight PETA. While they do some good (fighting factory farms and the ovious cruelty to animals), for the most part they are MORONS and extremeist. They don't take into consideration that for the most part outdoorsman are responsible and actually beneficial to animal populations. If you choose to not eat meat, wear any animal products, or to fish or hunt fine - don't try to make my decisions. I get highly offended when someone interferes with my fishing or cheeseburgers.
On the other hand PETA can be very entertaining. I used to love it when the circus came to town in Lex. and the Peta protestors would be out in full force. I always saved my money for the circus ticket and watched the PETA people. Far funnier than any clowns I have ever seen.
I wonder where these folks draw the line? If they have a mouse in the house or roaches or fleas do they protect them?
Just wandering,
DA
