    Guist Creek Thursday....

Haven't fished Guist in over 2 years but only have one day that I can get out this week and Thursday is it. My brother in law is fishing in a tourney there on Saturday so I thought I would do a little pre-fishing for him. Planning on throwing everything at them to try to get some pattern. Maybe even throw the fly to try and catch a smallie or two, just kidding but can't resist throwing the fly in any water that is less than 53 degrees and it will certainly be colder than this. Back seat open for anyone that wants to go. I live in Georgetown and can pick you up or meet you at the ramp, either way. Later

Hey Elwood...Looking forward to a report from you on Guist. That's pretty cool that you're able to "pre-fish" the lake for someone else before their tournament. It's not Dale by any means but good luck to you anyway.

Elwood I doubt if you will have clear enough water in Guist this time of year for the fly. Jigs is what you want to fish, any color as long as it's black and blue. I wouldn't go over 3/8oz this time of year with 1/4oz being my first choice. Fish the deeper rock walls that have the channel swinging near them. Fish it out fairly deep into 15 feet or so before crankin in to throw another cast. There are some pigs caught from the Creek in March every year and it's always on the jig. Another tip, use pork as your trailer instead of plastic up there this time of year.

Looks like John T and myself on for Guist for Thursday morning. Have not fished the lake in about 3 years and he has not fished it very much either so it will be out version of "A Day on the Lake". Taking both FNF rods and letting John try it out as well, just may snag one on the drop and if it is one of those Big Hybrids we will just hang on and chase with the trolling motor. Targeting Green Carp and surely we will catch at least one apiece to put in before daylight and no leaving until the one per person quota is met. We may still be there on Friday so somebody may have to bring us breakfast and Lunch Friday if needed. Full report when we get off the water, looking forward to meeting you John at the ramp.

Going to have to go against the grain on this one. Bigger flies on (white/chat) rocked on Stoner in colored water.

Give it a sling. You know where and how.

Back seat is securely mounted to the pedestal and even have some tie down straps that I use when I am trolling 5 rods for stripers that I have rigged up. Can use these straps if needed but I have yet to come across one of those Green Carps that fight anywhere near enough for the extra support. If we were at Dale and I knew you would be in a tussy with one of those 5+ Brownfish then we would defineately have to add extra tie downs to the chairs and maybe need to add one of those Salt water fighting seats that swivel and everything. With neither of us knowing Guist very well, low to mid 40 degree stained water conditions, we will be lucky to catch 5 fish all day long. Any more than that and we would have won the Guist Creek Bassmaster Classic if there was one that day. Looking forward to it. I will be throwing the fly a bit to see what happens and will bring my second rod to let you join in the fun when they start hitting it. I figure a nice fly suspended just above the cover will tempt any of them to hit. Hoping for lightly stained water and not chocolate milk. They will hit it in the Wolfe River in stained water so they may hit it in Guist. Probably the only FNF jig these fish have ever seen so it will be an adventure.

Hey George, great minds think alike, lol. I grew up on the Creek, we had a camp there for 17 years, that ole lake fishes the same way it always has. Go to the dock and ask Charlie McClain what to do and see what he says. That guy has caught more bass out of Guist than all the fisherman on this site times two.

Gotta go against this one at Guist this time of year, especially with stained water--gotta go with black/chartreuse.
