Re: Need new trolling batteries any suggestions

I just replaced my everstart with a group 31 from O'Riellys. Store manager said they were made by same company as Interstates. They were only $79.00
    With trade-in.

Carquest Gold Deep Cycle. You will not be sorry and you will never be out of juice or even close to being out. Spent many 14 hour days and nights on Ky and Barkley or Dale and never had a problem. Even had one night where I put in at Cumberland around 9pm on Saturday mid to late October, fished topwater all night landing a few good Stripers and some good Smallies, then picked up my brother in law at the Jamestown ramp at daybreak and fished until 6pm that night. 21 hours straight doing everything from topwater point hopping, to live bait fishing bluffs, to chasing some busting Stipers and never had any significant loss in power. Been using these for the past 2 years and they are still going strong. Boat sat from June of last year until 2 weeks ago and never was in the water. I had charged them before parking it and I put them back on charge 2 weeks ago and it took less than 10 minutes before my on board charger said they were full and to "Go Fish"

OK Maybe it's just me, but I find that unethical. That's the reason battery costs are higher for the rest of us.

Do you also shoplift your hooks when your old ones get bent or dulled?
Batteries and hooks are the same thing to me. Steal one, steal both.

I'm the same as MsgMills and VMaxx. I've used Everstarts for years and always have good luck with them. This last winter I had a prowler that got in my boat and unhooked a bunch of stuff including the charger. He also turned on the master switch along with some of the lights. I didn't discover it until the battery had been run down for a couple of weeks. He didn't steal the batteries, maybe he didn't like Everstarts? WalMart replaced the starter battery - no questions asked. My trolling motor batteries are now in their fourth season.

I also find this very unethical. I do know the local Wal-mart checks all batteries brought back for replacement. I was replacing my battery, which I do every 2 or 3 years, the associate checked the battery and said it was still good. I told him that he was welcome to buy it from me for the core charge. He said that they had to start checking all batteries because people were returning batteries just to get new ones. I think that a $70 battery that last for 3 years is a bargain. The cost per fishing trip is minimal. There is nothing worse than a weak or dead battery. I consider battery replacement as regular or preventive maintenance. I really like Everstarts and AC Delco.

"He didn't steal the batteries, maybe he didn't like Everstarts? Oh, he likes Everstarts: quote "Id stick with the Everstarts."

Second: Quote: "I automatically take mine back every year"

That Mr Newlight is stealing: He "automatically" takes his batteries back every year to get new batteries at no charge. You don't find anything wrong with that??

I'd hate to drop my wallet in any parking lot where you two persons are present.

Hmmm! This thread reminded me that my Delco Voyagers are now 8 years old. I never see them, meaning no checking water level's or outgassing of battery acid in my boat etc. I have a Dual-Pro 3 bank charger that take's care of thing's. I guess I'll replace them this year just for the peace of mind! and not worry! about them for another 8 years!

Very good TM Battery info...I am looking to purchase a serviceable automatic battery charger that will switch to trickle charge and hopefully shut off when battery is near capacity. Previously used a manual car charger which was inexact at best not to mention potentially dangerous. I have a pondhopper and take out battery to charge. Any suggestions on type or brand would be greatly appreciated.

Try BPS for one of their single bank chargers...I have had two of them for two other different boats I had before and had great luck with them. Very reasonable price as well on them.

You can attempt to justify your actions but you still lack ethics.

What was wrong with the batteries you replace EVERY year? Were they defective in any manner? That ,Sir,is what a warranty is for.
