Smile Great Day at Rough River

I got up early and me and my Ol' Buddy went fishing. Being post frontal, I didn't expect to catch much so I thought I would explore a place I haven't been to in several years, Tules Creek. About 7 O'clock, I put in at the North Fork Ramp and hardly got on plane before I was there. It was cloudy early but I still stayed on what would be the shaded side of the creek. Fished several places with several different lure. Caught three that were between two and three pounds and three more that put together wouldn't come up to a pound. A lot of fun anyhow. Each was caught in a different place and on either a jig or a 10" worm--nothing on a crankbait, spinnerbaiit, buzzbait, etc. They apperently wanted something big and slow moving.

By 11 O'clock the sky had cleared and the sun was coming straight down, so me and my Ol' Buddy put the boat on the trailer, went home and took a nap. This retirement is hard work but I'll just keep at it.

Re: Great Day at Rough River

We were going to fish Tules Creek last Sunday around 4pm and when we got there there were several ski boats anchored. Several people were jumpin off the cliffs... in the part where there is a no wake zone.

Since it was crowded we took the boat back to Axtel to trailer and go home. We had already been out all day.

When we got to Axtel the ramp was blocked off with a fire truck, 2 ambulances, 2 sherriff cars and a water patrol. After about 45 minutes a med vac helicopter landed on the ramp and air lifted some guy out.

When it all cleared a volunteer fire fighter told me some guy broke his neck on an innertube. After he left a guy walked up to me and said he was the one who brought the guy with the broken neck to Axtel.

He told me the guy broke his neck jumping off the cliffs in Tules Creek.

There have been injuries before on those cliffs. In this case there were several rumors going around about what actually happened to the guy. My dad and his girlfriend are the camping host at the Axtel campground so we have tried to take advantage of that as much as possible LOL!

Re: Great Day at Rough River

Why would a person transport a victim with a broken neck from Tules creek to Axtel when North Fork ramp is 300 yards from the mouth of Tules creek?
