My Kentucky trip was cut short the other day when I received a phone call from my Dad that my dog had been shot with a crossbow by a neighbor across the street. Unfortunately, no one witnessed the incident. However, from the blood trail and the way the arrow was positioned, it is pretty clear someone shot my dog from the front porch of the house across the street. After getting the media involved, we have been taken seriously by the cops. The arrow is being sent to the lab for fingerprints and to see if the blood on it is canine blood. I hope the police can convict this fellow of wanton endangerment and animal cruelty, both felonies. What if my daughter had been in the area, what if the arrow ricocheted and killed a person? This person needs to know this kind of thing is unacceptable. The folks across the street have denied any involvement whatsoever and claim to not own crossbows. The cops searched the house and premises and found nothing related to the incident but did find other items of interest. The cop would not elaborate on what he had found, but he did say he could charge this fellow with other crime(s). There are also unresolved issues with this fellow and the Jefferson County police as well.
Question for those of you working for the KDFWR. I just thought of this, if this person did commit the crime and owns a crossbow, maybe he has a license to use it to hunt? I don't know the details on hunting licenses but it might help if one could verify he has used one in the past.

Man that really is tough. I'm a huge dog lover and from what I read your dog was very lovable. Hope things work out and they find the culprit. I didn't realize that it could take months to get results back from testing like that article stated.
Your right shooting a crossbow around homes does seem dangerous!

No test results are achieved as rapidly as on C.S.I. or other police shows.

I talked to Ron today and he told me about that incident.
Call the KDFWR and ask that the Officer in that precient investigate.

Ain't that amazing, here I thought it since it was on T.V. it was the truth! Heck, first I found out that politicians lie when their mouth is open and now this! I even believed John Edwards during his campaign since he was preaching to the voters about wanting truth and honor in office. It has taken up to 2 years to get prints back on cases. They are working on trying to speed up the process and having some luck. I'm not trying to be negative but I don't think you will get the prints off the arrow. Just my .02.

Unreal Matt...sure hate to see this. You all hang in there and I hope that your Dad's "neighbor" sees some justice. Ridiculous. Like your Dad said in that video, it probably wouldn't do me any good to run across him about now.

I doubt they could find out if he has hunted with a crossbow or not, because you only buy a general hunting license and deer permit. I know in some states you purchase license for certain weapons but KY does not do this.
Perhaps if the person killed a deer with a crossbow and telechecked it, they might be able to tell but I am not sure how those records are kept.
