Has anyone here ever camped at Patoka lake? I'm looking for tent camping places and would like to go to this lake sometime. thought it would be nice to just combine it.

There is a fishermans campground with good bank access. Then not to far from that there is primitive area for back packing in. You can get all the info you need when you go through the gate.
Isn't fishermans campground still closed?
I thought o'Bannon closed that and it has not been reopened yet?

BOTH LAKES HAVE GOOD CAMPGROUNDS. SUMMIT IS MUCH SMALLER BUT YOU CAN BE CLOSER TO THE WATER. AND YOU CAN KEEP YOUR BOAT ON THE BANK POSSIBLY. fISHING PROBABLY AS GOOD ON ONE AS THE OTHER. BOTH ARE GOOD CHOICES. ARE YOU TENT CAMPING OR ? I LIVE CLOSE TO SUMMIT AND WOULD PROBABLY GO THERE IF I HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THE TWO.
I would go to Patoka much bigger lake and fisherman's is open if you a tent camper ,lake is up over summer pool but good fishing
We will be tent camping. I saw a site for back country campground. It was on thein.gov site. But it had no paying or reserving info on it at all. We're looking to go the last weekend in Oct I think. I don't have a boat, but I have a float tube.

Hey Geo Our man Mitch reopened all those things O'Bannon closed. We even have new docks at most ramps. Our ramps no longer look like we are poverty stricken.
There are plenty of sites in the primitive so reservations aren't needed. There are some real nice sites right on the water if you are lucky enough to get one of them. If you choose the back country you can pitch your tent right on the bank of a bay I fish a lot.
is the back country part of the park or is it something seperate? If it's at the park can we just drive up and ask to be in there?
the indiana dnr website is great....it shows a lot of this information along with maps of the parks and campgrounds...
I must admit, I had pretty much given up on Patoka after having my truck HIT by thieves 2 times in 1 year and 1 time last year.........
I may start going again, especially since it is SO close to me.
It is nice to hear that "MY MAN MITCH" has done a GREAT job for hunting and fishing in Indiana. If he keeps it up........he might be on a ticket in 2012...........who knows.
