    Question about KY Lake

I haven't been on the lake since late July and understand that the water has been drawn down toward winter levels. We're coming later this week and will be staying at the Moors. My question is this, given the current water level should we expect to have to do a great deal of running to find fishable water? Thanks.

The lakes are at winter pool. Be careful launching your boat at The Moor's....not much water on those ramps right now. You don't have to run far at all....plenty of fishing right in your area you will be staying. BUT, be careful running...if you do not know the lakes, stay inside the navigation bouys...or you may ruin your vacation.

    Re: Question about KY Lake

Pastor I was at Moors' this weekend and the water is so low the catfish had ticks on them.

Stay in the channels and you will be fine the east part of the lake the river channel runs pretty straight and you have good water depth on that side but the secondary channel going out of Moors' can be a little confusing there is a map in the marina study the secondary channel, go slow until you are familiar with the channel and watch your depth finder.
    Good luck.

    Re: Question about KY Lake

I would go buy a good map, especially if you don't have a gps with the channells marked. The channel down the east side pretty much runs paralel to the bank. The channel down the west side has some bends and curves in it, but it is marked extremely well. If you go down south any, I would look at the maps for entering into larger bays. Most of the mouths of these have some bars, humps, and rockpiles out in the middle, but most of them are marked too. I think Ky (with some common sense) is one of the easier to navigate lakes when at winter pool. The fishing should be great, but there are alot of season ending classics and regional tournaments going on so you may have a little traffic - but nothing like the summer months.

I like Barkley this time of year too. I would be very cautious if you venture over there and stay in the channels when running above an idle.

    Re: Question about KY Lake

The water level monday was so low you couldnt launch a bass boat at moors, i had to trailer to Big Bear in order to launch, so you might want to keep that in mind. Be careful, but you shouldnt have much problems if you stay in the channels like its posted above...

I have an rv right accross the bay from Moors and will be there this weekend. If I can help you with navigation or answer any questions for you feel free to send me a pm and I would be glad to help. I will be fishing friday-sunday. May even have an extra map you can borrow while you are there.

Sounds good. Let me know how the fishing is. Wife had surgery so I was not down last weekend. Starting to have withdrawal so I can't wait to get there this week.

    Pastor s

Echoing what several have said-Be VERY careful! Follow the running lane out of the Moors to the main lake secondary channel and only cross at the marked lanes! If you are looking to bass fish, there is some pretty good fishing about any where you look around the Moors right now. Just be safe and err on the side of caution!
