I drink alot. Just kidding. I got into making jigs last year. I still like to get out and fish on winter days. I clean the boat about every other day, and organize tackle (at least twice a week).

With winter coming on and the fishing slowing down I am sure alot of us find ourselves in front of the television wasting time. I am planning on taking up some lure and rod making this winter. Just wondering what everyone else does to keep their sanity when it's cold and nasty outside and we can't get out and wet a line?

I too got into making jigs of all types.... My bear hair jigs seemed to work just fine for one of the board members this year while on a fishing trip to Canada. From Jan to March of this yer I think I made at least 200 jigs. From football head type to crappie jigs of all colors.... Even the mini spinnerbait jig heads I made for the creeks paid off while wading this year. Looks like I'll be making more this coming winter to pass the time....![]()
Mostly spend the first half of the year taking my reels apart to clean and lube them, then I spend the rest of the winter trying to find someone to help me put my reels back together.
I build rods, make jigs, spinerbaits and I drink a lot of beer.
I fish as long as the ramps don't freeze. I like the gray drizzley days you sometimes get in December. It can be cold but good. Really the days you think are bad, turn out sometimes to be the best.
One of the best days I ever had on Cumberland it was snowing those big flakes. We caught several good smallmoth and ky's.
When its just to bad to go I make jigs and watch fishing shows on TV and wish spring would hurry up.

I've actually started to view winter as my fishing season. I'm waiting for it to get started!
i too am starting to view winter time as a good time to be fishin.... i have looked forward to fnf fishing and throwing tail spinners and silverbuddies since the spring bite slowed.... i too took up jig tying.....
Fishers of Men, South Central division fishes a cold schedule - we start in December.
Since I've lived in KY, I've dedicated Nov-Jan. as "Cumberland River Days"! The C-River doesn't get any better than during those months. As for FNF fishing, sounds interesting. I would sure like to learn how and try it out. It would definetly give something else to do during those cold months.
Other than that....I go insane and pace a lot. My wife has to tell me to snap out of it! My "cabin fever" symptoms include: Blank stares, erratic arm jerking, pacing, loss of conciousness while watching Bill Dance, frantic tackle arranging, and insomnia (while making lures). It's uncurable and contagious......until march that is.
