    God Bless America

Although there are many blacks that I would have much rather been the one to break the racial barrier to the White House, I still think that it proves that America is truely a great place to live. I took the item below from an emai I recevied. I don't totally agree with the writer's assesment of the man's charator, but I do believe that this is a historic time.

    Grumpy

A few short days ago, an African American man moved from his private residence into a much larger and infinitely more expensive one owned not by him but by the taxpayers. A vast lawn, a perimeter fence and many well trained security specialists will insulate him from the rest of us but the mere fact that this man is residing in this house should make us all stop and count our blessings - because it proves that we live in a nation where anything is possible.

Many believed this day would never come. Most of us hoped and prayed that it would, but few of us actually believed we would live to see it. Racism is an ugly thing in all of it's forms and there is little doubt that if this man had moved into this house fifteen years ago, there would have been a great outcry - possibly even rioting in the streets.

Today, we can all be both grateful and proud that no such mayhem took place when this man took up residency in this house. This man, moving into this house at this time in our nation's history is much more than a simple change of addresses for him - it is proof of a change in our attitude as a nation. It is an amends of sorts - the righting of a great wrong. It is a symbol of our growth, and of our willingness to "judge a man, not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character".

His time in this house will not be easy - it will be fraught with danger and he will face many challenges. I am sure there will be many times when he asks himself how in the world he ended up here and like all who have gone before him, the experience will age him greatly. But I for one will not waste an ounce of worry for his sake - because in every way a man can, he asked for this. His whole life for the past fifteen years appears to have been inexorably leading this man toward this house. It is highly probable that that in the past, despite all of his actions, racism would have kept this man out of this house. Today, I thank God that I am an American and that I live in a nation where wrongs are righted, where justice matters and where truly anything is possible.

No offense, but that is riddled with racial crap that it attempts to hide. An African American man? He is half white for goodness sake!
Anyone want to see rioting take him out of office. The man will continue to get a free ride because he is half black. Righting a great wrong? That card has been played to much. Puh...leese!

    Historic time indeed.......

Don, you need to stop holding things in and tell it like it is.

I don't disagree with some of the content of Grumpy's email. I agree we've made some great progress over the past 15 years in race relations. (Don't know how that happened with the evil George Bush in the whitehouse the last 8 of those years.) The author seems to see the Presidency as a vehicle to right some great wrong. Not so. The President should be elected by American citizens based on that person's qualifications and abilities, the color of his or her skin is irrelevant.

I myself doubted a black would be president in my life time, I voted for him, not because of that, but because of another little discrimination in this country, and that is against females. Colin Powell would have made a good president, but he chose the wrong party. Having went to multi racial schools, having black non coms, and officers in the military, I knew that they were just as capable as any of us white guys, not all of them, but I have also workedwith whites who weren't wort a dam either. This thing about old qwhite guys got my goat, watching my daughter who graduated magna cum laude from a good private school, and seeing her get lowewr pay, for her better skills opened my eyes once and for all. This guy may not do many of the things he promised, but he is going to try. There will be a day when us old white guys are going to be a small monority, get used to it.

That day is here, you old White guys are a Minority.
Discrimination against Women is real and I agree it's sorry as can be. I have several women in the office that work better than the guys around them. Why? Who knows maybe they feel they have to prove something?

Discrimination against Blacks? Thats a different topic all together and I don't buy into it 100%. Things happen to Whites, Blacks, Asians and Hispanics everyday and for one group to be the poster child on racism is wrong and ridiculous.

On the other hand if you had a company and you knew that chances are, one employee was going to take one or more 12 week family leaves, maybe not even return at all, would that employee be as valuable to you as others? It's near impossible to replace a person in a skilled position on a temporary basis. Not saying women shouldn't receive equal pay, just giving another point of view. My wife never went back after FMLA, and being the neanderthal I am, it works for us.

IMO, you voted for Mr. Obama because of his charisma and gift for speech. He has no record of accomplishments, so that's the only conclusion I can make. I suspect also you voted Democrat because you believe the government should play a bigger role in our lives including regulating how much private companies pay their employees.

Not sure what someone's age/color has to do with believing minimal government, self reliance, and independence should be the rule rather than the exception. Maybe you could explain it real simple, so even I could understand.

If it weren't for "old white guys", this country may have been a very very different place. Check the conditions of the countries on the planet where some old white guys aren't involved. Get used to it.

    Re: God Bless America

    1. I'm a 47 year old white male.

    2. I'm pretty darn tired of hearing and reading the term African American...to heck with that term is what I say, by gawd either you're an american or you're not!

    3. I agree that Colin Powel would have made a good President. If he would have run I would have considered voting for him, depending on who he was running against of course. I would have also considered voting for Hillary (maybe)...although she did have an emotional day one time while standing at the podium.

    4. If you don't think the white american male is a minority you need to look again.

    5. I never cared to see the day a black man became elected President of the United States just for the sake of seeing a black man represent the country, are you kidding me, people actually dreamed of seeing the day a black man became president? Get real people!...a man is a man by golly, black or white is irrelevent. If a man (or woman) seems to me like he could do the job (Colin Powell) then I would vote for him.

    6. It's been many many years ago, but I remember it to this day. I was discriminated against being hired for a job because of my skin color way back when I was in my early 20's....granted I didn't have any experience in the position I was interviewing for but I guess I interviewed well because they kept calling me back for a second and third interview. Anyway, I didn't found out until six months later that I didn't get the job because they had to have so many blacks, so many women, etc......True story. I have no sympathy for anyone who cries about being discriminated against, all I can tell anyone is to pick yourself up and make yourself better and the money and the jobs WILL come your way.

Less government. OK Cut out fish hatcherys, or let everyone buy stamps to fish for their own choice. No public boat ramps, they shouls all be private affairs, and let them charge what the traffic will bear. Federal gasoline tax, scrap it, private toll can take you anyplace[if you want to go there].Abolish ALL federal prisons, let the states handle all the criminals[uh ever hear of state taxes]. WE all rely on government in one form or other, and TAXES pay for governm, ent services. Why the heck am I opaying schooltaxes, I have no one in school, except a son whos a teacher, teaching special needs kids, so why teach them anyhow, they will just go on the welfare rolls some day soon.Too much government is bad, not enough is worse. If you're sitting in the country someplace, and you have lights, thank the REC, it was taxes that brought that to you, probably some of mine. I dont like taxes, but they are a fact of life, sorry, they have been with humanity in one form or other since we became civilized. Some are wrong, some are needed. Why do I need to pay a surcharge on my auto insurance? its so people who dont like government mandated auto insurance can be covered for the damages their right not to be included incur.

99.9% of all fish and game projects, salaries, funding ect., is paid for by the sale of hunting and fishing licenses in this state. The Gubmnet doesn't pay for almost any of it, that argument doesn't wash, sorry.

You wasted a lot of keystrokes overstating empty arguments. Do away with gas taxes and we'll all pay tolls? Look at the states where your liberal heroes are in control. In New York they pay gas taxes AND outrageous tolls. To quote a cyber-friend of mine "Puh...leese!" I ain't going into the rest of your points, IMO they have no merit.

Take good close look at California. Is that what you want for our entire country?

Look, nobody is calling for the elimination of the government, and we all know taxes are a fact of life. Those of us who want to keep the freedom and independence we have left want it stop growing. Without going on a tirade explain where the role of the government stops in your opinion.

All those things you mentioned in your post are in place already, you voted for a party who's ultimate goal is take total power by creating unprecedented levels of dependence. Government mandated wealth redistribution, government administered health care, government controlled banks and companies, etc, etc, etc.

For goodness sake, one of you liberals step in and help out here. Where does it stop? How much government is enough?

How bout it Pontooner, Col, Andrew, somebody, anybody? Is California a better place to live? New York? Massachussets? Illinois?

Corp of engineer ramps? public tax payers foot most of that bill. But user fees are also used to help. but there are always cries about user fees.A lot of our dingelor what evwer bill used to paying our fishing and hunting gets deverted to the general fund, to off set other taxes. We are a nation of cry babys, if someone else gets sometrhing from uncle sugar, its pork, if we get it, its our tax dollars at work. They just passed a bill to pay for medical insurance for low income children, paid in part by cigarette taxes, good? yes and no. I smoke, if the tax becomes burdensome I'll either quit or cut back.We all jump for joy when we get something from uncle, and cry and hold our breath when someone else does it, sounds sort of like a spoiled kid to me.About that thing of maternity leave, DONT HIRE THEM!!!!!. Let them stay home and bring up the kids, mine did, and it meant less money for my toys, unless I went and found a second or third job to support my habit, i did.We , me included over consume everything, and complain when we cnt afford more. The poor look at the rich with envy, the rich look at the poorwith greed, great christian principles.
