    Taylorsville hybrids

I have heard people talk about catching small hybrids at Taylorsville and was hoping to give it a go with light tackle.

    Any suggestions? lures, baits, etc?

    Thanks!

Troll by points and sandbars near main lake access slow with something shiny if its "clear", works well for me. Also do well on muddy days, which in my experience are the norm on most parts of T-Ville, with fire-tiger lip-less cranks and tubes of your favorite color for particular water conditions. Good look.

I've always caught them on 1/16oz jigs (marabou) in chartreuse. When I trolled for them, I used the large Hot-n-Tot and trailed a jig about 18" behind it. Tie the jig leader line onto the front hook eye of the Hot-n-Tot ... runs better/truer/deeper. Trolling a Roadrunner 1/16oz, chartresue marabou, has also worked. Also trolling a blade bait works ... Cicada, Silver Buddy, Gay Blade, even small Kastmasters, etc. Pretty much anything that imitates a Shad should work ... and you'll catch the occasional Crappie, Bass, Channel Cat, too.

I like trolling the mid lake area (Horseshoe Bend) and have caught them on the shallow mud bank, as well as out in the middle of that stretch of the lake. The stretch in front of the Chowning ramp has also been productive. Also, the flats around the corner from Settler's Trace Marina (as you turn right, heading towards the dam) has been known to be a good spot.

Shouldn't be too long before you'll be seeing them "in the jumps" ... busting Shad on the surface ... and most any of those previously mentioned baits will work for casting to them. Even if the boat traffic keeps them down, or won't allow them to stay up for long ... trolling thru the area should work OK.

CP has given some good advice. I have caught that was as well.

One of the best days ever for me on T-ville was in August many moons ago. 4 of us caught 124 up in the river. We were throwing small cranks and tiny traps. We would get real close to the bank and cast up stream. I fished the same tiny trap all day on an ultra light rod. By the end of the day the paint was 90% gone! What a day!

Horseshoe bend is almost exactly 1/2 way between Settlers Trace and Chowning.

    Re: Taylorsville hybrids

Wichita is right. The "horseshoe bend" is between Heddy Run Creek & Candy Branch. Most of my success at catching Hybrids in that section of the lake, has been in the straight stretch between the turn past Heddy Run Creek and the horseshoe bend (hard right turn) itself. The straight stretch in front of Chowning Ramp is also known for Hybrids. Some In-Laws of mine used to troll small Shadraps in this area, and caught some nice Hybrids, there.
(horseshoe bend directions are described as if you're coming from the Settlers Trace end of the lake, heading towards the Chowning/Van Buren end)
Don't know of any particular "landmarks" that would identify it .... it's just a hard right hand turn in the lake. In the straight stretch, before you get to the horseshoe bend, and if you're coming from the Settlers Trace end of the lake .... the left bank is lined with standing timber - and the right bank is mostly treeless. Right bank is mostly a mud flat, once you get to the last 1/3 of the stretch, just before the horseshoe bend turn.

Yeah, Riverrat12 .... chicken livers do work. Unfortunately, it may well be the reason why there are so few "large" Hybrids left in T-ville. Seems like just about the time that the Hybrids were getting to the (old) 15" size limit range ... people started catching them on chicken livers. Word got out, and I haven't seen any of that size, since. (And that's been quite a few years ago). Haven't fished there much in the last few years, so I don't know if the Hybrids have rebounded any.
I never got into the chicken liver use, but did castnet some 3-4" Shad ... and caught some good sized ones, back in the day.

Ya know pappy I to have noticed that the good hybrids seem to have disappeared from The Ville. Over harvesting I guess was the culprit, but they are nowhere near in that lake like they use to be, just little Nubenheads and that's it.
