More sad new's, this morning a 17 year old teenager drowned at Jamestown marina when he fell while leaving a john boat to get on the dock and hit his head.

Wife and I went and stayed at Jamestown. Week netted 4 Stripers, one 26 inch, and 3 short fish. Tried planer boards on main lake and creek points and channels, downpoles at 20 to 40 foot tight to the rock banks, and some bottom fishing, 3 of 4 Stripes came on planers, 1 on a 30 foot deep downpole 20 feet off a rock wall south of Conley Bottom. We used shiners all week. No shad up we could see at night or morning. No surface pops at night. Bluegills great on night crawlers and bobbers 8 foot down at the walls around Jamestown. Small Stripers surface feeding in the evenings in small schools in the first bend of Lilly Creek liked Giz 3's.
Couple notes.
a. Thursday morning, in the 5 am strong thunder and lightning storm, the Marine Band Antenna on the Gas Pump Office at Jamestown Marina got hit by lightning according to the gas pump attendant. Antenna was splintered half way up and cut off. As of Thusday PM, they were not up and pumping gas yet. Our room at Jamestown overlooked the gas dock, tooooooo close!
b. Think it was Tuedsay or Wednesday monring at Jamestown, at the ramp, we saw a police officer, and the emergency red fire boat, bring in something in a white "body bag". Sure looked like a body bag. Was that the police dog being recovered? Anybody know what was going on there?
c. Lake is mostly clear, but be very careful at night as the winds of the days, and the rain lately, along with the Corps pulling water from recent rains is creating some "moving debris fields that spring up at one place, then show up later at otehrs. Some debris areas covered football field sized areas one night, only to be gone in the morning.
d. Tuesday we ran from J-town to conley Bottom, with only minor debris areas and no problems, but after heavy rains, by Thursday and Friday nights we were seeing more debis out there around Jamestown. Not a show stopper, just be alert especailly at night as this stuff is moving.

Thanks for the report HurricaneBob. I'm sorry to hear about the 17 year old who drowned, our prayers go out to his family. HurricaneBob, my wife and I are thinking about staying at Jamestown, did you stay at the hotel? How were the rooms and how much per night? would you recommend it? And one more question, did you catch any nice bluegills? I plan on bass fishing at night some but I would like to catch some of those tasty bluegills. I wish the stripers were on.
Thanks again HurricaneBob,
Tim

If you don't mind me jumping in,try staying at Timberpoint Resort it's just up the road from the dock. My friend owns and runs it. It should be cheaper. Thanks for the report HurricaneBob. Bass-Master:
Here's the link to the Jamestown Marina and Motel.
http://www.jamestown-marina.com/
Rate we paid for a deluxe room was $79.00 per night. That's 2 full beds, seperate bedroom, nice bath with full tub and shower, front living room with a sofa bed that can sleep 2 more, and a micro wave, small frig, and coffee maker, and sink. Room was very clean, nice tile floors and fairly new carpet, 2 TV's on 27 inch and one 46 inch flat panel. We asked for a first floor room. Ask for Jeanie Flannigan the dock manager, and ask if she can arrange a slip with electricity behind the store. She does her best to accommodate and helped us out.
Process is to trailer in the rig to the office to check in. Next, launch boat at ramp just down the hill from the office, tie up boat temporarily at the ramp dock. Take trailer to the top of the hill and drop it in the parking lot. Come back down to the ramp. I hopped out and took the boat to the slip, while the wife headed up and opened up the room. I tied the boat up in the slip, then climbed the steps to the motel to help unload for the week.
Benefits of Jamestown Marina Motel Stay:
a. Ramp in one time for the whole time you stay. With Jeannie Flannigan's help, a slip with electric means battery charging at the slip overnight.
b. Ships store has nightcrawlers and shiners on the dock at Jamestown, within easy walk distance to your boat tied up. Gas is there, as well as breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the restaturante. We thought the food was good and fair priced.
c. State dock is right across the way and is an easy backup spot for gas, nightcrawlers, shiners, and ships store items.
d. You room will overlook the marina at night, and the lake, great place to relax and enjoy a great view with a cold one after a day of fishing, and a great place for morning coffee. Also great way to see the weather over the lake and lake traffic to decide when to head out to fish.
Down side: 72 steps up from the marina. We learned to take 20 steps, a breather for the view, then 20 more, etc. That way, no sweat at all.
Link to Timberpointe, owned by Larry and Brenda Gillock, good friends of mine too. Rate about $63.95/night. http://www.timberpointe.com/
But you will ramp in and out each night, and miss the lake view from the room. Knowing Larry and Brenda, Timberpointe will be very clean and well maintained too.

Thanks to HurricaneBob and everyone else for their posts. All you guys are what makes this board so great. I'll post a report when we get back. Still not sure where we are staying (leaving it up to the wife) but I'm leaning towards Jametown with keeping the boat in the water.
Thanks again,
Tim
