    Family and money

Yesterday, my wife's sister asked to borrow $500.00 She said I'd be paid back in two installments of $250.00 over the next two months. What could I do? I loaned her the money.

This morning, my oldest son asked to borrow $300.00 to $400.00 to catch up and pay off some credit card debt. He's been working two jobs since his divorce in an attempt to pay off debts.

I almost always loan money to my wife's kinfolk when they ask. I've only been "stuck" a few times.

But why do I always feel like a schmuck when I loan people money? Hey, I'm quitired with NO INCOME and watching my porfolio go in the tank in this economic mess we are in now.

I've delayed and put off some needed medical tests for myself because I can't afford the procedures at this time, even with self paid health insurance.

Oh well, I can't take the money with me to my grave, so I might as well help those that need it now.

No actual question here. Just needed to get it off my chest.

I stopped loaning money, when I figured that "family" owes me around $10,000 bucks........

I'm sorry, but I'm not the first bank of GeoFisher..........

I've worked HARD for what I have, and my sister, both my brothers, and my parents...........SPEND like Obama.............and you know what.........they are all **** DEMOCRATS........

My dumbass sister put a car on two CREDIT CARDS.......wow.....and the funny thing.....she has filed bankruptcy 2 times, and can STILL get credit.

    Later,

    Geo

    Re: Family and money

Way back when, I loaned my sister and her husband a large sum of money (large for those days). I was a single soldier on Okinawa at the time. When the money wasn't being paid back as agreed to, I was bitching about it one day at the NCO Club. An older Sargent heard me and said:

"Let this be a lesson to you--LOANING MONEY CAUSES AMNESIA, especially in relatives."

I don't believe you should loan money to anyone. I think you should give it if you have it to give and are so inclined. It really changes the dynamic of the situation.

Of course, if they continually come to you for gifts, then you probably want to cut them off at some point. If it's a special circumstance, that's one thing, but all you're doing is enabling bad behavior if it's a pattern.

Tyme since you are in the lending mode can you throw some luv this way, I will pay youy back, I promise, lol lol lol. Nevr loan money to friends or family as it will end up causing problems in the long run. But it shows you are a good person ready to help no matter what you have to put aside. I give you a thumbs up for that Tyme.

    Re: Family and money

Just my thoughts and lessons I have learned from a dear uncle to me is if you are in need feel free to ask for anything but money, I would let anyone in need sit at my table for breakfast lunch and dinner and sleep anywhere they feel comfortable in my house ( with exception to my bed ) for as long as you need. If I can spare a vehicle to help a fella I will give it up as well. When it comes to the green backs, your on your own. Its a tough policy to stay diciplined with but it works and saves loosing relationships in the end.

Sister-in-law wrote a check to me for the $250.00 she promised for July. One more check and we're good.
