Told you wrong on the 20 pound test...better go up to 40...50 or 60 pound test isn't out of the question either. If you hook into one and he decides to head for the bank and get tangled up in tree's limbs, etc. you'd be screwed with 20 pound test.

Judging by the rain this week and seeing they're now running the generators hot and heavy (the lake as of right now is at 688 and they try to keep it at 680), you might want to consider rescheduling your trip.

With all this rain and the generators running is it safe to put a boat in the river just below the dam? I am heading down tonight for the weekend and I know the water has been too low but I was curious if anyone down there could update me. I have a 17 ft Nitro that will float in a few feet of water. If the waters still low I guess Ill put it in the lake and try for a striper. Thanks.

You should be fine if it remains at 10K CFS as it is right now. It's swift, but not unsafe in a 17 ft boat. Just like anything else, be aware of where you drifting and when your running, watch out for obstacles such as downed trees sticking out of the water. Current breaks or boils may indicate items just below the surface, but not everything is visible. Good luck. We really need this rain to stop. More cold water is being released from the dam and we're not yet in August.
