All my years of fishing never have caught a bluegill after dark and i have caught a bass right after i realeased it.It was protecting a bed.It was a little bass so it wasn't too smart.lol

I have two questions...........
First,
Will bluegill bite a plastic worm or a trailer on a jig after dark? I have heard both they do and don't bite after dark.
Second,
How long does it take for a bass to bite another lure after being caught on one?

I've had what I am 99% sure were bluegill bites on plastic worms while night fishing. That rat-a-tat-tat is hard to mistake for a bass bite I think.
Probably Warmouth or Rockbass. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but bluegill are very inactive after dark. They are litterally hiding, it's a self preservation thing. They are very vulnerable after dark to larger prey.
I have actually caught several bluegills after dark. (While catfish fishing)
We were getting bites (thought were catfish) but couldn't seem to hook up with them. Modified our approach and started texas rigging night crawlers. Started catching huge bluegills on 1'0 hooks after that.
Haven't caught a whole lot other than this way, but I have to say that it can be done.

As far as your Bass eating question.. Bass need to eat at least every 72 hours. I don't think they have a very good memory. Unless their on the bed, I would say it may take a day or two after being stuck.
I have caught some nice gills under the dock lights waaaaayyyy into the night. 99% of the tap tap tap bites you get after dark are warmouth or 8 inch bass pecking at the bait.
OK, what's a warmouth??![]()

They're also known to pick up a jig or worm ... when you're fishing for Bass, especially prespawn. This usually ends up with the angler setting the hook and sending the Warmouth flying over the boat ... LOL !!! Well, that's what has happened with me, anyway. I've also caught several while crankin for Bass ... probably weighed close to a pound.

Go to google image and type in Warmouth. Many people call them rock bass but there is a difference. A warmouth is kind of like a bluegill but thicker with a large mouth.
They will drive you nuts too tearing up your plastics. I can tell their bite and try to pull it away from them easy but sometimes they just won't let go, lol.
Warmounth don't have the super red eyes like a rockbass. Warmouth also have a yellowish brown look to them. I caught 2 on a Rapala DT10 crankbait the other day. Both were 10-11" long.
Sounds like one aggressive little fish...Seems only thing missing are teeth...then it could join the Piranha family.
