    Re: Our Healthcare FUTURE........

I certainly wouldnt look at any other country who has partially/totally free health care and say its what you folks will have. All countries have different political and economic systems in place. Your new health care program will take the good things from the other countries (by the way, Canada's is the best) and have to apply it to your own countries political and economic system. Well that is what Obama said when he was up here. I heard it with my own 2 ears. The US has been studying our health care since George W Bush has been in power and most likely even before that. We have had lots of US governement people up here looking at our health care system. But what works well here wont work down there. We are all unique countries in our own way and the hope is Obama finds a good health care program that works for the US system. Oh and just one more thing, you gotta stop giving free health care to illegals. That is a no no. Up here only Canadian citizens are allowed free health care. Its not totally free either more like partially free.

It's nice to have someone on this board from another country who recieves free healthcare. I'll tell ya Gills, down here most people, well, at least most people on this message board are against free healthcare. Down here in the states you EARN everything...you go to work and earn it, nothing is free. And in my own opinion earning one's own way makes for a stronger individual, which in turn should also make for a stronger country shouldn't it?

I'm still not sold on free healthcare or government run healthcare....heck even if the government runs it I'm still not sure it's gonna be free by the actualy definition of "free".

We already have the best Healthacre system in the world. If the gubmet starts playing with it/owning/running it then things will cost more. Look at gubment housing, IRS, VA, Medicare, Social Security and inner city programs. They would be fired in the private sector but the people in this country who love a free ride (does not exist) are screaming for more.
Think about the recent sound bites on the radio of some mental midgets standing in line waiting for their handout...screaming "obama money" when asked they had no idea how he could handout money all they knew was that it's free! Thats sad.

Boy, you said it..........I think the last few generations in this country, including MINE, and my kids, have never learned what it means to EARN anything.

I've NEVER taken a handout, even though in my earlier years, I qualified for EVERYTHING.......

I was raised to LOOK DOWN upon welfare....it is a BLACK EYE to society.

I've shared this story before, but after my parents divorced, my mom worked 3 jobs to keep us in our house......I used to mow lawns for 5 bucks each.....some BIG OLE yards too........

AND I remember working weekends for 20 bucks at McDonalds Kennel........HARD work too.......but I EARNED every red cent of that 20 bucks.

In high school, we qualified for free breakfast and free lunch.....I at oatmeal EVERY MORNING at home......and peanut butter and jelly for lunch....EVERY DAY......No free lunch or free Breakfast for me........EVER.

Shopping for new clothes involved Good Will and the Salvation Army. You'd be amazed at the stuff you can buy second hand that people just "throw away".

Going out to dinner usually meant going to RAX or McDonalds. I don't believe I EVER ate at a good resturaunt while in High School.

Yes my friend.......EARNING is a lost art in this country.

The one thing we didn't have trouble with was healthcare......My dad was 30 years in the Army, and we still carried all the medical benefits afforded dependents of retirees....

That's one case and it happened because one person (the radiologist) missed the cancerous tumor. As far as using ex-smoker's lungs for transplants, it basically comes down to weighing out the pros and cons. Either die waiting for a set of perfect lungs, or take what's available knowing your life expectancy may only be extended by a short time frame.

I don't think you can extrapolate this example to what ours' is going to be if Barry gets his way.

Excuse me Mr Minnow, but you make it sound like only Americans work hard for what they get. Canadians are hard working people. I worked 24 years and worked hard so I can enjoy this health care system. My hard earned tax dollars make it the best system in the world. The majority of Canadian work very hard so they can enjoy a partially free health care system. So please dont assume we are all a bunch of lazy freeloaders up here!!

You're making a basic assumption here, that being, that this only happened because of Britain's system of socialized medicine. I did a simple Google search, and it quickly turned up an example of this being done in the US:
    http://ajrccm.atsjournals.org/cgi/co...ull/156/5/1700
Yes, that was from 12 years ago, but I'd be willing to bet it's still happening today.

I'm not defending socialized medicine, and I'm against the government-run "option." But please, let's back up this argument with FACTS, not inaccurate ASSUMPTIONS.

I don't doubt what you say...and I'm not assuming anything either. I just don't think government run healthcare will work for America like it does for Canada or any other country that presently has government run healthcare programs...actually I think it's a BAD idea for America since it's the big bad consuming machine that it is, and I'm still under the impression that rewards only come for services rendered, PERIOD!...I work, I get paid and I either participate in some insurance plan through work, or I go out on my own and pay for insurance out of my own pocket or I take my chances and do without. I chose to do without until I was 35 years old or so.

But I do like the fact that we have someone on here who presently lives in a country who has government run healthcare, I think you can add some interesting thought to the subject matter since you're already "living the dream" so to speak.

OK......but it looks like that was done as a part of a study, and NOT a common practice....

Big difference, if you ask me.

Also, I did a quick google search, and didn't find any other cases, including this one you quote, so it must not be too common.

    Re: Our Healthcare FUTURE........

You know.......our CURRENT mess with insurance companies was basically CAUSED by our gubment trying to control wages back in the 40's.

Basically gubment passed laws limiting WAGES......sound familiar.......AND those wage laws lead companies to offer other payment options, including stock options, and HEALTHCARE......imagine that.

AND then the UNIONS got involved and managed to convince gubment that Healthcare and Pensions are part of your SALARY........imagine that......

So, we basically created an entitlement system way back then......I guess gubment is the ONLY way to resolve this mess now. THEY CREATED it in the first place.

I'm not sure where the insurance crap got started, but in my opinion insurance is the single biggest rip off there ever was, PERIOD! The companies will raise your rates in a heart beat whether you've ever filed a claim or not...but by golly when it comes time to file a claim they give you every excuse in the world why they can't give you this or that or whatever...which is one of the reason I chose to go without healthcare insurance until I was 35...#1 I couldn't afford it and #2 I always felt it was a rip off.
