Nope!

    I'm sick and tired of anyone thinking I should care about slack, low rent, illegals, welfare taking or gubment assistance abusing folks. When do the law abiding, American way system following folks get a break? All we get is you gotta pay for this group of people, you can't think bad about this group, just grin and bear it we are the richest people in the world, you got more to give. It's getting old....sad part is that people in this country are buying into it if their political party backs the idea.

    It's a game and who actually wins???

    There is a family of THREE who lives in the area near my place in Alabama. The father is as healthy as a horse but he thinks the world owes him a living because he was in the Army, in peacetime; he saw no combat duty, and was discharged with a BCD. He came home with the attitude the world owed him a living because he "served his country." All he did was go to a regular job for 4 years. His wife lay around all day, stuffing her face and watching TV; he joined her and ballooned up to about 350 lbs, she made it to about 400 lbs., their daughter, now 28 is an able-bodied recovering (?) drug addict. EACH person in that house has been declared disabled and each person is drawing $1,700 per month in Social Security disability benefits. Their total household income is $5,100 PER MONTH. She had part of her stomach removed and now weighs 229 pounds and makes no attempt to find a job and get off Social Security. They have parties about every 3-4 weeks, grill steaks, the booze flows freely and have recently purchased a new Chevy car.

    I thought all you hard working people would like to know where your tax dollars are being spent. I do a slow burn when I see those people and think about my husband going to his job every day, some days he doesn't feel like getting out of bed because he has heart disease. When he comes home from work, he looks like he will collapse from exhaustion. He couldn't work if he had to do physical labor but he has an office job. The idea of applying for disability income has never crossed his mind.

    I don't feel sorry for any of the lowlife, able-bodied people who make a conscious choice to live off the system rather than get off their behinds and go to work. They are not my responsibility.

Like women who need fertility drugs to get pregnant need to pay for that themselves and cosmetic surgury is up to you to pay for as they are not seen as essential which is right I think. But you get your doctors appts, any tests, Xrays, bloodwork, surgury are all free and pay for by our taxes. Now our plan has been in effect for about 50 years so most of the kinks have been worked out. Treatments are free for cancer like radiation and chemotherapy; laser eye surgery, stays in hospitals etc. I will tell you I certainly dont ever want to get sick but I dont have to worry if that time ever comes whether or not I can afford to stay alive or not. Its just one less worry.
    Big Gills I am curious. Could you tell us what percentage of taxes that you have to pay from your income?

    What about the 2 in 10 that are laid off right now who have always worked and paid taxes . Now the 58 year old loses his job no health care sometimes no life insurance he has a heart attack due to the stress goes in the hospital lives for 3 days and dies. The family is left to pay the bills as best they can and hopfully have life ins to bury him. And they have to carry on with out him or his income. I can see why you don't care its not you.

    I hope the 58 year old put some money away, instead of PISSING it away on fun stuff.

    I'm 43, and have put 10 - 15% away since I was 18..............AND don't give me that GARBAGE that you cannot...........WHEN I started putting 15% away, it was when I was DELIVERING PIZZA........I still put it away.

    I've got two kids, have eaten my share of tuna helper and SPAM, and still managed to put enough away to live comfortably when I retire.

    What I don't have is:

    * I don't have a $40,000 truck with a NOTE
    * I don't have a $30,000 boat with a NOTE
    * I don't have a $100,000 house with a NOTE
    * I don't have a $50,000 equity line of credit MAXED out.
    * I don't have a $10,000 dollar credit card MAXXED out.
    * I don't have 10 store credit cards MAXXED out.

    I've NEVER been on a cruise, or to Hawaii, or to Mexico, or to Europe, or out West, or about a BILLION other things I'd like to do..........

    If I don't have cash in hand........I DON'T DO IT.

    SO.................58 and BROKE...........NO FREAKIN EXCUSE.

    Sorry, but PERSONAL responsibility is a lost idea on Americans today.

    Later,

    Geo

    Geo, you nailed it !!

    Lack of planning on your part does not make it an emergency on my part.

    While some of my wife's family went on cruises, trips to Las Vegas, etc, and then complained that the government didn't "give" them enough, I wanted to puke. Oh, they still come to me for "carry over loans" because of their lack of planning. It's worth $100.00 to me to not see them for 6 months.

    Hi GreenRiverMan, I am not very good at figuring out math at all. Who knew in high school I would need it some day. HA! Ok when I worked for the Alberta Government I made 3,500. per month and they taxed me $750. per month. So you will have to figure out the % of that. Now being a Govt employee up here you are taxed more than the citizen that works for private companies. The Govt goes after their own employees to foot alot ot the taxes but you cant complain too much cuz they have such great benefits like 80% they pay for dental cuz that is not free, they pay 80% of your medication cuz that is not free. You get a good retirement package. Now when I moved back to this area, I worked for the Salvation Army which is a non profit organization and I made slightly less and they taxed me about $500 per month and again I got the same dental and medication coverage with them but no retirement package. They dont have a union and the govt does. I have worked 22years of my life and then went back to school part time for several years and I have never had to pay 1 cent of income tax when they do my taxes each year. I usually get some money back like a couple of grand. Please feel free to ask me any questions about this if it doesnt make sense.

    Not at all...no offense to the folks there. I just see the United States as a different place than Canada.

    I have read alot of comparisons with our system and others including Canada and we still have the best in the world. It's very hard to assess the real cost of their healthcare since there are so many variables but I have read that some people are taxed as high as 55%.

    We need to tweak our present system not revamp it at the cost they are claiming. We will see no matter what they do we will all live by it. Just a little reading fer ya....
