Re: Respooling spinning reels and line twist.

When you've tied the arbor knot, and it's about to go around the spool, it's going to "want" to curl in one direction or another. Make sure you place it so that it curls the same way that the line is going to go onto the spool, or you're doomed. Other than that, I've tried lots of different methods suggested by my friends, and then I hit upon a novel approach: Follow the directions in the box! Lay the spool down on one side, and start spooling, while keeping tension on the line. Once you've made about 10 cranks, pick up the spool and hold it up next to where you're holding it to keep tension. If you see the line twist one or two times, or not at all, you've got it on the right side, and should just continue on. If it twists a lot, lay it down on the opposite side, then spool the rest on. That has worked well for me. The only time I run into trouble is with light line and light artificial baits, and I think that has more to do with my technique, and maybe the quality of the line I've been buying, than with the way the line was spooled. Which raises another question. What line are you using?

Sounds like some good advice on this problem. Another question. If I go to a braid line and want to use a leader, what kind of knot is the best to connect my leader to the braid? Something that will hold without me worrying about it.

    Thanks

Try it I bet you say it works for you to. Also hold tension on the line as it comes onto the spool.

Also like Don said I use KVD line conditioner, it's good stuff.
This is what I do as well. Laying the spool down and going couter does help for a few turns, but there isn't a one to one ratio of turns between the spool and the reel so getting twists is bound to happen. You can keep the initial twist down to a min by turning the spool over when some twists develop. I pinch the line very tight so the twists stay between my fingers and the spool. Six turns, flip, six turns, flip, etc..

If I want get any twists out while on the water, I drag all the line with no weight at all behind the boat while going at no wake speed. After its all out, I put my tip next to the water and reel it back on, still at no wake speed. If you are getting lots of twist after casting, then you are either not closing the bail by hand or your roller may be sticking. Of course throwing a bait that spins without a good swivle will also cause twist.

i also do the same i spray some kvd conditioner on a rag and hold the line tight and make sure it is going on counter clocwise. and a major thing is not to over spool becouse that will make it jump of the reel to.
