    Ouija Board

I just saw where Hasbro is selling a pink Ouija Board for young girls to use as a game during sleepovers. Apparently some people are up in arms about it, saying that "It's designed for young girls ages 8 and older, but some say the mysterious product is a "dangerous spiritual game" that opens up anyone, particularly Christians, to attacks on their soul."

In the 1940's my father owned a Bar & Restraurant called the Horsemen's Inn in Jackson Michigan. In those days, our family tradition was that Santa trimed the tree and put out all the presents on Chrismass Eve. After Santa was done, his helpers in the form of my Mother, Father, the older brother and sisters and usually a couple of sister's boyfriends, would break out the Christmass Cheer, Sloe Gin Fizzes, which my father was famous for.

For Christmass of 1947, Santa left an Ouija Board for the family to enjoy. A couple of my sisters and their boyfriends decided try and see if Ouija had any messages anyone. They took turns asking Ouija if he had a message for various people and for some of them he told stuff about their future. Even though he wasn't playing they asked if Ouija had a messoage for my father and it did and spelled out: "Beware, Horsemen's Inn Robbed."

They laughted and kept playing for another hour or so, but just as they were getting ready to call it a night about 3 AM, the phone rang. It was the city police informing my Dad that the Horsemen's Inn had been robbed!!

True story and another part of the reason why I believe in ghosts.

I wonder if any of the boyfriends knew something about the robbery.

Haha exactly what I thought! JK Grumpy I believe in there being something to Ghosts, Spirits, apparitions or whatever.

I won't mess with stuff like that! My belief says you are not supposed to try and summons or ask for things like that.

Heck look what we got with wanting "change"!! Now the whole country is cursed!

I don't beleive in em but now my wife that's another story. She believes in em. Heck she won't even go in the woods because she thinks witches are out there. I remember hunting one year and I was deep in the forestry and my truck was dead when I came out to go home in the evening. I called her to come out to get my truck jumpstarted. The road I was down was just basicly a firebreak and safe speed was about 10 mph in daytime I mean it was basicly a cowpath. She came through them pitchblack woods doing about 60 mph, curves, hills, ruts, mud, trees, ravines and all. I could hear her over 5 miles away coming down that road through them woods. I was standing out with my light on and she darn near ran me over and wasn't gonna stop for me either. She was scared ****less. I went off on her about dangerous it was for her to be driving like that and then jumped my truck. She was gone like she was shot out of a gun. I couldn't catch her. I was pretty ticked at the time but since she made it home alive and didn't wreck my truck it's pretty hillarious to me now.

    Re: Ouija Board

Know1 and DJD, I guess I am too close to the story to begin to figure our your lines of thought that would lead you to believe that the boyfriends could have possibly known that my parents were going to buy a Ouija Board as a family present. And even if, perchance, one of my sisters had known about the Ouija and, even more by chance, had told either of the boyfriends before Christmass eve, why on earth would they risk giving themselves away and risk their accomplises getting caught by alerting my father that the Inn may be robbed. I don't think that even the police followed that line of reasoning, but either way, as best I remember, the crime was never solved.

No, I think that for whatever reason, Ouija wanted to alert my Dad that a crime was in progress. Unfortunately, no one took is seriously and the theives got away with the money in the lockbox and a bunch of booze.

Since apparently no one else believes in Ouija, I will not bother to tell my follow-up story about some other strange things Ouija did.

    Re: Ouija Board

I was working in Berea College years ago at one of the old Dorms. I was the last one there and had to call a Contractor before I left, anyway...I had to be outside to make the call since the reception stunk in the basement.

The guy says your there by yourself? I say yeah someone has to work and he mentions that this place was a big Witches den or something along time ago and asked if I saw the Pentagrams on the walls in the basement. I laugh it off and tell him to shut up and he wears me out with the stories of noises and weird happenings in the place.

Once off the phone I thought ok all I have to do is go down there and get my laptop and shut some panels down should take 10 minutes at the most.....that was the longest 10 minutes I ever had!! It really sukked...

Everytime I heard a noise I jumped and felt like something was on its way to get me. LOL I don't know why I let it get to me but it did. You can work yourself up!

    Re: Ouija Board

I believe that some people are open to the "power of suggestion." I'm not saying you are but I know people who can hear a story about a horrible tragedy, murder, or other things and it sets their imagination into overdrive.

I don't believe Ouija boards have anymore power than a piece of cardboard and a handful of buttons; both are only objects and if you focus on either long enough, you can imagine anything.

Several years ago I was walking down a path to the spring at Andrew Jackson's home and noticed that I was the only person walking down that path. An older woman yelled across the lawn at me and said, "You don't want to go down to that spring, President Jackson killed a slave down there; it's haunted." I stopped and asked her if the body had been removed and if the investigators were still on the scene. She stood there in stone silence looking at me. I said, "Guess not," and walked on down the hill. I didn't see or hear anything but the largest, clearest, natural spring of water I have ever seen.
