Question new motor 7.5 HP Gamefisher - questions?

    Hi Folks,
I have a 10 foot jon boat that I have been powering with a 46lb trolling motor. Well a friend of my fiance just gave me a 7.5 HP Gamefisher outboard - free!

The motor has been sitting (empty no gas hookup no oil) for 15 years....

    I have a couple questions.
Assuming two men in 200lb range is this too much motor for my boat?

Where should I buy tank, lines, etc for the gas and new spark plug?

Any other maintainence I should do?

This is my first experience with an outboard.
    Thanks

its not going to be easy to find parts for this outboard. my first boat had a 15hp Gamefisher on it and it was a major headache most of the time. its a decent outboard when its running right but when its bad its bad.

    searsparts.com

type in the model number and it will bring up most parts they still have avalible.

First of all, congrats on the free motor. I am using a 5hp Gamefisher on a 14 foot john boat. It's decades old and only gets used a handful of times per year but works like a charm whenever we take it out. Your 7.5hp motor shouldn't be too strong for your 10-ft john boat. My 14-foot is rated to accept a 15hp motor. I think you'll be fine.

You know.........that is a PERFECT dogwood boat Eddie.......when it starts getting a little warmer, maybe we can take it up the the ole wood.

Not a lot of BIG fish there any more, but you can literally POUND the bass there.

I'll second the "impossible to find parts" I just got rid of an ol' gamefisher I have had sitting in garage for a couple years. I tried that long to find parts for it, needed simple parts, like gaskets, and carb rings, and could not find them anywhere...and I mean anywhere. You can buy a tank just about anywhere, just make sure you mix your fuel and oil right, or you will run rough. If I remeber correct, the gas line connectors are the same a the Chrystler outboards, and you can get those at BPS. Good luck, hope you have better luck with the Gamefisher than I did. After buying mine, it ran for about 2 months, and then it sit in the garage the rest of the time.

I bet Jim at Sycamore Island has parts...........I've looked for stuff ALL over the dang place, and he'd have it.

I've seen a lot of junk 7.5 gamefishers there also.........

    Give him a ring.
