    Thumbs down BRL Report 4/1/10

First off, man what a BEAUTIFUL day! I just wish the fishing had matched the weather. Got to Peninsula around 0730 and was up Cook Creek around 0745. Water was clear and around 58 degrees. Flipped the standing timber there with some beavers and brush hogs.....nothing. Threw the crankbait and spinnerbait....nothing. Took off and headed up Skaggs doing a bunch of the same, unfortunately with the same results. Headed WAY up Skaggs @ 1130 till I didn't feel comfortable going any further. Water temps around 62 degrees, stained water. Flipped the bluffs and burned some cranks & lipless through the shallows and brush piles....nothing. Around 1430, I headed back down and over to Peters Creek. Fished shallow brush piles in the mouth, and managed a keeper LM on a spinnerbait. Crappie fishermen where tearing them up, so I switched for a little while and managed some decent crappies out of those brushpiles. Went back to LM fishing and worked midway up Peters, managing one more keeper on the spinnerbait...water temps around 61. Decided to troll for hybrids for a bit around 1630 with not even a nibble. After being baked in the sun all day, I decided to call it quits and head back to BG. Hope you all did better.

I fish Southern Indiana and the jerkbait bite has been pretty good up here. I didn't see any mention of you throwing a jerkbait is the reason I posted. My son and I fished wind sweep main lake points on 4/1 throwing jerkbaits and had a 6# largemouth, 3.75 smallmouth and 2 other keeper LM in the 2.5 to 3 # range along with 5 or 6 short fish. Action wasn't real fast but the quality of fish was decent. Some of the points had rock and some were just clay. The smallie actually came off a clay point. The common denominator was deep water nearby. I always read your post because you give good straight info and I want to return the favor.

Yeah...I had heard that the fish were in the skinny water, so I didn't bother with jerks on main lake points. I guess I should have at least tried it, oh well. I figured with the water temps we have had down here lately, the fish should be well on the way to spawning, or at least getting ready. What were the water temps where you were fishing? I appreciate the gesture. Take care.
