    trolling for hybrids

Hey, me and my dad troll for hybrids on herrington with the bomber set up and have done pretty well, but we just recently got two downrigger and haven't had much luck, What lures are usually used off downrigger? We are thinking of ordering some stuff off cumberland lures, some small striper jigs and maybe a umbrella rig or two, but really didn't know what to use, do you all have any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Nate

1/4 or 3/8 oz buctail jigs, preferably with a spinner blade on them. Add a 3 or 4 inch curly tail grub to them. Set the lines at least 50 feet back from the ball. Put the jigs (you'll have to account for fall back for the ball and drop of the jig below the ball) between 12 and 22 feet down, depending on the depth of the bait/fish that you mark on the graph. Troll between 2 and 3 mph.

thanks, for the bucktail jigs, colors like red and white, white, and white and yellow right? That would be my guess on colors. If I was going to run a umbrella rig what lures do you usually use on them, same bucktail jigs? I plan on buying from cumberland lures unless you have a better suggestion. We had been making our jigs that we trolled with because the brass hooked ones at walmart weren't strong enough and we had quite a few straighten out.

    Thanks,
    Nate

I have been KILLING the Hybrids lately at RRL trolling umbrella rigs. I use the smaller umbrella rigs that put off 5 baits. I use roadrunners in white and yellow with matching grubs. Trolling at about 2 mph. Been catchin them TWO @ A TIME!!! Another great option for using with your downrigger is an erie dearie tipped with a full night crawler. Caught a lot of Hybrids on them as well lately. Good luck!

Thanks, my dad took off work for the next two days and we might try that, how deep have you been trolling? Also on the road runners, are you using the road runners that are usually for crappie fishing or something heavier? We have a bigger Umbrella rig that I think holds 7 or 9, that should work the same I hope. Right now on the Umbrella rig we have these: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...0011518316172a
they are a lot smaller though, have yet to actually use it.
