Barron River Lake Crappie ?

I thought crappie where on at Barron but we went yesterday and only caught 2.
We fished river channel, shoreline brush and coves with stickups, shallow and deep.
Fished Beaver, Skaggs and Peter creek and other coves.
We used minnows and jigs also.
The wind was pretty strong but I didn't think it would make that much difference.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Does anyone guide for them on Barren?

I fished last Thursday and caught several crappie, the only ones I caught shallow was on a channed bluff. The only thing I could get these to hit was a roadrunner. I had weeks before, caught fish 3 feet shallow on the float and fly, on some stumps, but they would not hit that at that depth around the same places. I could move out deeper and catch a few, and that's what I did. I ended up with 23, but it took all day and I fished hard, some of the deeper fish I caught on minnows. Fished seemed to be scattered too. I was catching my better fish early in March shallow. I believe the best fishing for crappie may have slowed some, in some areas. I am catching more white crappie now and the bigger blacks have moved out of the areas where I was catching them. Not saying. that somebody else may be having better luck with where they have been fishing or using a different technique to have better success. Sometimes I have seen a little spring turnover occur, and the crappie will shut down in that area, and then its time to move. Sounds like you moved around enough, and didn't just stay in one area. I know the wind can really limit the area's you fish. I will be down tomorrow on the lake, and I will be fishing mainly for crappie and posslbly some hybrids. I have fished Barren 6 times in the last month, and have yet to fish in any coves for them. A month ago there wasn't any water in to many coves. I will try and reply back and give you a update. Fished about 5-6 hours and ended up with 26. Fishing some of the same areas and places that I have been for about a month. There just deeper now. Most fish came around 13ft. deep off of stumps and brushpiles. Mostly white crappie and just a few black ones. Most fish are coming off of ledges or points. Floated some big shiners around for an hour probably, without any luck. I had my nephew with me and I was hoping he might hang a big one, but decided we better get back to the crappie. Good luck.

Could be that a cold front just pushed through. Just a guess though. No need for a guide. Lake gets drawn down 25 feet in winter. Walk around with a gps and mark brush and stumps. Come back in spring and fish it. Get a "milk run" of spots going and catch 1 or 2 off each spot and you will have a good day.
