Question Strike king red eye shad

I know after KVD won the classic they sold a butt load of these. My question is do you think this bait is any better then any of the other lipless rattling baits out there? What sets it apart from the others? I have never fished one so I didn't know if they was all that or did a lot of people just buy into all the hype?

Re: Strike king red eye shad

I personally have tried several different models of lipless crank and redeye shads are the best in my opinion. I have fished them many different ways and lakes. I have done everything from burn them in six inches of water to yo-yoing them in twenty and have caught fish everywhere in between. Plus they are cheeper than a lot of the other brands. But all this is just my opinion.

Used about all of them, all will catch fish at the right time. Caught more on the traps and sugar shads but I've used them more. The redeye does fall differntly. ro

Love the red shad is my goto lipless crank. 1,2 punch for me redeye shad followed by the knocker. Yo-zuri is my 3rd choice of if the bait fish are smaller.

All the different brands are a little different as far as vibration and the fall. Is it better? Iduno. Lipless are my go-to this time of year and redeyes are my favorite, but the second biggest fish i caught this year was on a spro. One reason the red eyes are great is because of the way they fall, and not really because of the shimmy or whatever, but they fall straight down and much faster with the heavy nose compared to the flat ones that fall on there sides which slows it down.. i think it gets more strikes with the fast fall and rip.

Re: Strike king red eye shad

Been using them since Strike King released them a couple years ago. Great bait, but they don't catch anymore fish than other lipless crankbaits. They do fall differently than other lipless cranks in my box, and they tend to run through grass a little bit better due to their slim body design. However, if I get grass on another brand of lipless crank a quick jerk will get it running right again -- and sometimes this leads to a reaction strike.

Good bait, but I think since KVD won the Classic, this bait has caught more fishermen than fish.....

Been fishing them for years since they first came out. I have done well with them but done just as well with the original Rattletrap. I know they won't replace the original rattletrap because the old standby still feels good and catches fish.

The original rattletrap can't be beat. Also the XCaliber rattle baits are awesome to. Strike King is good but are hyped alot by Pro's getting a check. The day KVD won the classic, 10 other rattle baits would have probably done the exact same thing. The difference is Strike King is his major sponsor, money talks and BS walks.

Re: Strike king red eye shad

i use both rattle traps and red eyes and will say this- if fishing tall, submerged grass ripping the red eye through it and then letting it fall will fill your livewell very quickly! i've caught some nice bass when nothing else would pick them up in the summer just by getting that reaction strike on the fall in grass. something about the way it "shimmy's" on the fall turns them on more than other baits.
