Monticello, Ky. man gets caught cheating in annual big fish tourney on Cumberland

Just like it says. When he went to weigh in a fish he was told by tourney official that they had found his fish basket this week & marked his fish. Told him where & how & then showed him in front of a large crowd. Don't know this fellas name, but was so glad he got caughtbut very disappointed he didn't get prosecuted. The tourney official even told him he had 2 choices 1 return his fish to the lake or 2 weigh her in & go to jail & be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Even had an attorney present. I wish they had have burned his ass bad. Fishing can be frustrating, but it's the mental aspect of it that is something else when you win or money honestly. Man I hate cheaters & would love to see them get jail time huge fines & never be able to fish tournaments again. They truly deserve it.

I found a milk crate in the back of donaldson at barkley on the right side down in the bushes. Rope tried to it and home screen wired down on it. Didn't see fish but it was Sun. afternoon that dad and I saw it. This was several years ago but it look aweful suspicious there about 3" under the surface.

Spounds like they should also have had the local law enforcement there, let him weight in the fish, then put the cuffs on him right there in front of God and everyone else!!

He should have been left to walk through the crowd without any escort. What a piece of garbage!!!!

Whatever happened to the two jacka$$es that got caught about a year ago and had their boat impounded( they won the boat by prolly cheating too)?? People like that should not be allowed to fish for 10 years like Ryan said!!

Re: Monticello, Ky. man gets caught cheating in annual big fish tourney on Cumberland

Glad they caught him. Same thing went on some years back in a local factory tourn. Just some good ol' guys fishing for bragging rights more than anything. A member of the club wanted to "Keep" some fish for his pond so we all thought, no big deal right. Turns out the fish he keep was the same weight as the fish he weighed in the next week Burnside tourn. Then he bought fish from a guy who marked them by cutting the fins and told the Tourn Dir of a Nov. Tourn that was held out of Connley Bottom.
As fishermen, we are bound by a code of ethics. There is no one watching us fish, there is no one to report any fouls we may make. As fishermen, we have to do the right thing, even tho no one is watching. I've always thought if there is money involved, someone will find a way to tilt the outcome. I agree with your thoughts on enforcement to the fullest extent of the law. With that said, the fullest has been served believe it or not. The said individual above has never been seen in a fishing tourn since then. I will also bet that said individual in this case will also not be seen in a tourn. anytime soon.
If your post is accurate, his name will get out as a marked man. A Fishing tourn. can be found just about any weekend on all of our lakes, but as tourn. fishermen, this large group of tourn anglers shrink when we hear of this activity. He may have not been burnt by the law but you can bet he will be "Burnt" by this. There will always be someone out there that remembers the weigh in and the guy in question.
    Just my thoughts and opinion

That guy should NEVER be allowed to fish in a tournament again. Law enforcement should have been involved to confiscate his equipment.

    This burns me up.

Makes me wonder how much it (cheating) really happens.......

Tournament directors from all around already know both names, and if they don't, I can be reached easily. Soon as I heard, I made a call or two to find out just for the fact that we cant have anyone show up to fish that has been caught doing this. Makes it real hard to look into the eyes of the guys who have fished with you on a regular basis if you allow them to fish.
