A fraternity brother of mine lost his brother to a motorcycle accident a short time ago, and yet his family found a way to help others AND let their loved brother/son live on too.

This is something we can all do by signing the back of our driver's licenses and letting our family members know we want to donate our organs to help other people that are dying live.

I did it the very first time I got a drivers license and have done it ever since.

I never thought a whole lot about organ donation until it was determined that my father needed a Liver Transplant.
He did receive a liver, and I was/am eternally grateful.
I don't know how long he would have lived with out it, but I know that with it I was able to spend more time with him. Unfortunately, he never left the hospital due to infection but with out a transplant he may have left the hospital a whole lot earlier...

Knowing they are unfounded is step one in overcoming them.

There is a story my sister tells, she used to work for KODA, the Kentucky Organ Donor Affilliates: There was a lady that was very religious and her concern was, when Jesus came back to save the world, she would not be whole and would suffer without the items she donated. After a while, she started crying and said that when He did come back, she would be able to live without one cornea and one kidney and just one of anything she could donate. She agreed to become a limited donor. That is courage right there.

I declined. Cholesterol is normally over 400 even on meds. That means the liver and kidneys are suspect. My eyes are close to 20/200, so why pass on the handicap. Heart: See Cholesterol. Lungs = smoker?

I was going to go ahead and donate my brain right now since I'm retired and the wife says I don't use it anyway. But if I did donate it now, I'm afraid the Marines would recurit me.

I made that decision like 20 years ago. They can have whatever is still working when I die. I wont need those parts anymore. It is nice to know that when I die that I will be helping others live. That feels really good.

So do u also spell it out in your will that your an organ donor?

You will need your KY drivers license number or KY ID number. Let your family know your wishes, it will make the process at the hospital faster, spelling it out in your will is not required.
