    Gulf oil spill

Looks like this spill is going to cause some serious ecologiacal and econmical problems for those gulf states effected by it. Said it could be months before they can get the leak stopped so there is no telling how bad things could get before it's all said and done. Right now they are talking about miles and miles of coast land being covered in oil and wildlife up to 30 miles off the coast being affected because of the tides and how low most of the gulf coast is.

The shrimping/fishing industry and tourism industry was finally recovering post Katrina and now this happens. You have to feel bad for the people down there with all they have went thru the past few years.

We spent 4 winters in that area. This is a tragedy. Its worse than exon valdez,Not many people actually lived in that part of Alaska. If any of you guys have ever fished red fish and speckled trout, you'd know what a gem that area WAS. It may never recover, I know it wont in my life time. If it hits the sabine marches, it will be even worse. No amount of money can be spent to recover what once was a sportsmen paradise. If it was caused by a short cut taken to increase the bottom line, fines are not enough. We may never know the actual cost, because peoples lives could also be in jepordy.

It's tragic BUT accidents happen. I figure new preventive measures are on the horizon for these companies and we will have much higher gas prices.
I bet the wacked out environmentalist groups are buzzing!!

You know.......if we'd develop our TAR and SHALE sands like Canada, we'd never have to drill in the gulf.

Instead, we DRILL in VERY VOLITILE areas.........I wonder when we will get hit at the pump. Even though not much of this oil will effect global supplies, I bet we see a 20-50 cent jump in the next 6 weeks..........and that jump will be attribruted to the spill.

The canadian oil sands work, but requiire a lot more expensive processing. also most of our refinerys are set up for light crude,so why should they spend the money now, as far as prices go, they dont an excuse, they use the "golden rule" we got the gold, we make the rule.

I love how the mainstream media keep going to the BP execs for their info. This is going to be bad news in that area for quite sometime.

Guess you and myself are part of one of those "wacked out environmentalist groups" that DJD says is buzzing. You would think with this being a fishing/outdoorsmen website there would be more outrage about it than with most people but I guess since it's not in our backyard and the drill baby drill crowd are the majority here it can be reduced to "accidents happen".

The way I look at it with offshore drilling is, are the rewards greater than the risk and I say no. Even if a "accident" like this happens say just once in every forty years the oil can be replaced almost immediately with the right amount of $$$ but some of the damage caused by the oil spill will take years and years to recover or may never recover at all.

Stupidest thing Obama ever did was approve some offshore drilling but it looks like they might be rethinking things now, thank God.

I am thinking of all the dead fish, dolphins, whales etc that are going to killed due to this oil spill. Of course, sharks and alligators too but since they are dangerous I dont mind them getting killed. Then it is suppose to hit the shoreline so what does that going to do to the vegetation etc. I really dont have a clear picture of the devastation this will cause. I think once it is all said and done and we see what has happened and all the death then it will hit people hard. I have never experienced anything like this as our oil is way up north in the oilsands so this wont happen to us.

Dang don't be hating on me....your not whacked out (yet). The whole thing is tragic who would think otherwise? I just think that tossing emotions into the fix of what went wrong will not fix the problem. Drilling isn't the problem, oil isn't the problem and stopping offshore drilling sure ain't the fix.

The dumbest thing Obama did was pushing Healthcare down our throats!

    Re: Gulf oil spill

First, the new drill areas have not even been looked at yet.Norway has drilled much deeper than BP, but they added more redundacy to the precautions, it cost more to do it,but hey no matter the price, WE will pay it. Its the bottom line, if you make seven or eight passes, you are far ahead of the game, even if you do eventually throw craps. It used to be called "standard oil" then american oil, now BP owns it. I have friends and relatives who work at the big BP refinery in Indiana, cost cutting is the major item they are woried about. They petioned the state to make changes so they could refine oil sands stock. Guess what? It couldn't be done using the EPA minimums for pollutants released into the air, So it wasn't granted. Do you think BP was worried about the effects it would have on the future drinking waterof over 10, 000, 000 people. There comes a time when we have to look at the big picture, the price of gasoline wouldn't have gone down that much, but the price of removing hydrocarbons fromthe drinking water would have sky rocketed. There are no simple solutions to these problems,Ethanol works because we subsidize its use.Turning switch grass into a fuel source, demands using more energy.I dont have any idea of how to stop our use of petroleum, its cheaper than coal conversion. You cant put a nuke motor in a pick up truck, yet . So wwe pay. and pay.

Even if Gas prices jump a buck or so..........I think we NEED to resolve how to efficiently drill oil, or shale, or WHATEVER.........

We've had a crappy energy policy for 30 years, and now that we're crunched for LIQUID gold, we need to figure out how to get it efficiently and SAFELY.
