Depends if you are swimming or fishing.

Fishing, yes. Sauger have extremely sharp teeth. Gar have ALOT of very sharp teeth. You have to be careful removing the hook/if they get loose in the boat. Both stay away from people as much as they can.

    Swimming - no.

I doubt they'd actually "attack" the person, meaning the fish was trying to eat a human, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone wearing flashy jewelry got bit. Happens all the time in salt water, especially around 'cudas.

My wife, when she was a kid, was swimming in a lake in Michigan and a Northern Pike attacked the loose string from the knot in her bikini top. She was just relaxing in the water, not moving alot. When it hit the string she screamed and jumped. The pike bolted out of there immediately.

That makes sense, the string would act just like an artificial worm.

Note to self: Never swim with a drawstring hanging out the front of your suit!!

ive heard some herrington stories from a freind who fished it alot in his younger days. he told stories about how they would see a creature around 12-14 ft long and all kinds of other stuff.

but on a serious note ,, i knew a guy who thought it would be cool to get a pet caman (spelling??) , looks like a smaler version of an alligator and his thoughts were he would turn it in to a zoo or something like that when it got too big to keep in a huge aquairium. what if someone released something like that into a lake, i know it probably would not survive winter but it could be large enough to cause some damage durring the time it stayed alive. ya never know whats lurking beneath the water
