That was great. But i'm about as surprised as when Ricky Martin and Clay Aiken came out...
I needed this to lighten up an otherwise boring day...
Didn'tgoto the onion site, but soccer is becoming pretty popular here with the younger generation. i have seen huge soccer complexes in several parts of the country, and they are crowded., what will it take off in this country is make it like hockey, put a few goons on the field who only try to wipe out other players. Get some skimply clad bimbos to cavort on ther side lines, have one or two star players arrested for variousfelonys, and the next thing you know, its a hit! oh dont forget steriods.
A lot of parents get their kids into soccer because it's the thing to do in "suburbia". Then the kids get old enough to realize how boring it is - at that time they focus on other sports that actually have a following in the US. Ones where money can be made at the pro level. Soccer will never be popular in this country no matter hard ESPN pushes the World Cup. And that's saying something, cause the 4 letter has shoved it so far down our throats, ripped out our vocal cords and then stuck them so far up our arses it gives a new meaning to the phrase "talking ****".........
Most of the parents get their kids into soccer because of a thing called EXERCISE. The schools are filled with kids so fat you can't tell if they are walking or rolling. There is a girl on my daughter's team who lost 55 pounds playing soccer and she has become one of their best players. The reason Liz started was because she had friends playing and it was the only game she hadn't played in other than football. She is 5'9" and weighs 119 pounds and those long legs can put some serious speed on a soccer ball. I don't think soccer will ever be as popular as the three major sports but it has a good following. There is a huge soccer field here where several teams can play at the same time. Teams consist of children, teens (male and female), adult women, and adult men. I have seen some fierce competitions and those guys are tough. I think ESPN is pushing the World Cup, first of all, because of money that is made from the advertisements/sponsors and, second, because soccer is popular in many other countries. jmoA lot of parents get their kids into soccer because it's the thing to do in "suburbia". Bug we were just having a little fun, any organized sport that keeps kids outdoors and teaches them discipline, teamwork, and bonded friendships is alright by me. It also keeps them off video games and the Puter which is all good.
Just having some fun,
Mark
I understand. Nothing wrong with having a little fun. Wanna' come out and play? You could beat me today with a broken leg and both hands tied behind your back. lol
